    Job Description

    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    The Automation Service Engineer II will be responsible for performing and/or facilitating qualification, calibration, maintenance, and repair of equipment utilized for DNA Extraction, Library Preparation, DNA Quantification and Sequencing. This position requires a candidate that is strong in root cause analysis and repair of equipment commonly used in the DNA sequencing workflow. He/She must be detail oriented, have worked in a regulated environment (CLIA, CAP and FDA desirable), possess strong documentation skills (GDP) and strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for service, support and troubleshooting of automated processes and instrumentation at Guardant Health’s San Diego, CA facility.
    • Responsible for performing and coordinating maintenance of all laboratory equipment.
    • Perform Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Process Qualification (PQ) on new equipment and as needed.
    • Required to work with Quality to ensure all documentation is accurately completed per regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain organized equipment records.
    • Perform root cause analysis of problems that occur on instruments associated with Guardant Health’s DNA sequencing products.
    • Triage equipment issues and involve vendors as required.
    • Draft documentation as needed related to equipment operation and maintenance.
    • Suggest process improvements and design a plan to execute them.
    • Represent the Engineering Group in cross functional meetings
    • Execute special projects as assigned
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BS degree in an engineering or scientific discipline with 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
    • Experience operating and troubleshooting Hamilton Liquid Handlers, Illumina Sequencers, Qiagen QiaSymphony and other DNA quantification instruments is required.
    • Strong customer focused service experience.
    • Ability to constructively challenge concerns and engage in transparent conversations
    • Ability to identify, analyze and solve problems with minimal direction and make decisions with confidence.
    • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Ability to successfully balance and prioritize multiple ongoing projects/tasks
    • Experience with Molecular Biology techniques is desirable
    • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong working relationships
    • High degree of initiative and self-motivation
    • Drive for continuous improvement
    • Experience with MS Office

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Employee may be required to lift routine office supplies and use office equipment.  Majority of the work is performed in a desk/office environment; however, there may be exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and biohazard material in the laboratory environment.  Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

    For positions based in Palo Alto, CA or Redwood City, CA, the base salary range for this full-time position is $105,000 to $142,000 USD. The range does not include benefits, and if applicable, bonus, commission, or equity.

    Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including, but not limited to, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
