    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Gunderson Dettmer is seeking an experienced TECHNOLOGY TRAINING SPECIALIST to work in our New York office.  We are currently working remotely and remote work will be required until the New York office reopens.  This role has three distinct, yet connected functions. First, this position is a Legal IT Trainer, and reports to the Training Manager. As a trainer, the candidate has a full understanding of all attorney & paralegal end-user software, and develops or curates best available training on the same from vendors. Tasks within this role include:

    • Formulating teaching support materials and selecting best-suited instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, practice group specific sessions, demonstrations, and lunch and learn workshops.
    • Developing teaching aids such as training handbooks, quick reference cards, online tutorials, demonstration models, multimedia presentations (i.e. Adobe Captivate) and reference works.
    • Conducting training sessions to cover areas such as new product implementation, product use (i.e. toolbar plug-in) and other firm specific customizations such as intranet pages, custom forms hosted solutions and matter workspaces.
    • Building a strong working knowledge of the Firm’s new suite of collaboration tools, namely Cisco Unified Communications (UC) telephony, texting (Jabber), and conferencing via Cisco WebEx and Zoom, and developing a set of training videos and sessions to quickly inform users on system operation and configuration for mobile device use.

    The second function of this position is as a Technology Analyst, identifying key gaps in technology or processes affecting end-users. The analysis role includes attending key legal technology conferences, assessing new product offerings, reviewing legal tech publications and articles, and connecting technology with firm needs. Should identified desirable technology be purchased, the position leads the charge to integrate new products and processes into the daily work flow of attorneys and paralegals and secretaries.

    The third and final role of this position is as a Matter Centricity implementation agent. Working with the Records Department, which manages Information Governance for the firm, the Practice Technology Specialist has a complete understanding of the document lifecycle and risk management requirements, and provides adjunct training on all technical aspects of processing and handling of legal documents at in the document chain of custody.

    Gaining technical knowledge of new systems, platforms, and services is valuable to you, and you will be expected to pursue a personal certification plan to stay current on key technologies of interest you and that are useful to the firm. Your natural curiosity and ability to self-start will be a great asset to you, and you are expected to step in to assist during high-impact operations.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

    • Training end-users in all aspects of the standard Desktop.
    • Curating a multi-modal suite of end-user training materials. In particular, planning, creation and curation of video training materials to highlight key tasks common to most users. These video materials would ideally be one-minute snippets or less, built using Loom with voice over, that show users quick tips on how to accomplish daily functions, such as: Searching for documents, remote login service options, self-scheduling and initiating video conferences, using mobile communications applications, and how to use matter workspaces. This is of course a short list, it is expected that there would be a regular, up-to-date video library of over 50 titles.
    • Assessing technology gaps, and identifying and implementing new products and processes to meet firm needs.
    • Direct training and technology assessment support for the Records Department information governance role.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • At least 6-8 years relevant experience.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
    • Ability to interact and communicate with various departments – need to be able to adapt to audience (C-level, IT, users, etc.).
    • Minor lifting commensurate with office technology.

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or 6-8 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Previous Trainer experience. The ideal candidates will have training experience in a law firm environment or have held the position of technical trainer or product training specialist in some other industry in the past.
    • Strong presentation skills both verbal and technical including experience with presentation tools like PowerPoint and/or desk top publishing software.
    • Experience in Microsoft Office 2010/2016, Windows Operating System Environments (Windows 7/10), and proven familiarity with iOS and Mac OS X.
    • Candidates should also have a strong understanding of Document Management Systems (DMS), used in the professional services environment.
    • When inter-office travel resumes, travel will be within the US, approximately 20 days per year.

    SCHEDULE

    • Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (occasional training before or after these hours)

    STATUS 

    • Full time, exempt
