    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Gunderson Dettmer has an opening for a MARKET INTELLIGENCE SPECIALIST in our Silicon Valley/San Francisco, New York or Boston office. Currently, employees are working remotely and remote work will be required until our offices re-open. The Market Intelligence Specialist is a role in the Marketing Department but will work closely and on a daily basis with the Directors of Knowledge Management and Client Experience.

    Overall:

    • This role combines data and analytics from internal firm sources as well as external sources to help inform marketing strategies, client retention and expansion efforts, as well as the identification of market and client trends.
    • The successful person in this role would apply competitive intelligence and market intelligence processes and best practices, and would work collaboratively with the Marketing, Client Experience, Knowledge Management, and Finance functions to gather and synthesize meaningful information for insights on industries, markets, competitors, individuals and topics of interest.
    • As this role evolves, we expect the successful person in this role to be able to leverage our data platforms to analyze and distribute intelligence firmwide, design and create visual, actionable dashboards for end-users, and help solve complex business problems for high-value stakeholders.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Market Intelligence Research and Data Analysis

    • Gather data from various sources/databases to compile a variety of intelligence briefings, including (but not limited to): company/venture capital firm profiles, relationship intelligence documents and biographical dossiers
    • Provide research in connection with the origination and execution of new business pitches and related client development meetings and activities
    • Conduct competitive intelligence and benchmarking research within an industry or among peer firms
    • To support the Firm’s experience database, engage in comprehensive research of the Firm’s transactions across a wide breadth of industries, geographies and transaction types using a variety of internal and external resources, including Pitchbook
    • Assist with ad hoc reporting and data analysis projects as needed.

    Visualization and Sharing of Intelligence

    • Leverage business intelligence tools (such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.) to deliver visual and impactful insights to decision makers, reducing time spent required to interpret data
    • In collaboration with subject matter experts and the Knowledge Management team, shepherd the development of client-facing reports, newsletters, infographics and other deliverables to advance thought leadership

    Data Architecture Development and Platform Management

    • Work with a cross-functional leadership team to evolve the firm’s data platform, financial intelligence technologies and forward looking (predictive, prescriptive) analytics
    • Suggest and own new processes, reports, dashboards, or other analytic pursuits that drive user adoption and interest in market intelligence efforts across the firm
    • Assist in inventorying our existing reports for future consolidation/transformation/improvement; document and maintain reporting inventory moving forward

    EXPERIENCE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of five (5) years of experience offering competitor, market and industry research; Master’s Degree and/or additional certifications a plus.
    • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working with business intelligence/analytics tools (Tableau Power BI, Domo, etc.). Advanced skills with Microsoft Excel, including manipulating large datasets.
    • Experience working in a law firm, venture capital/private investment firm, or professional services firm is highly desirable.
    • Reliance on proven analytical skill to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
    • Ability to work independently as well as in a highly collaborative team.
    • Strong client service orientation.
    • Strong time management skills, including the ability to handle multiple complex projects at a time.
    • Ability to work under time constraints, meet deadlines, and to provide information and reports in a timely fashion.

    STATUS

    • Full time, exempt.
