Latham & Watkins, one of the leading global law firms, is currently seeking an Analyst to join their Tactical Opportunities team. Tactical Opportunities is a new concept for the legal industry, which blends financial and market investment research with internal firm strategy to identify industry shifts and market dislocations that lead to new business opportunities for the Firm and its clients. Members of the team have several years of combined experience in the investment banking, investment research, management consulting and legal industries, having previously worked for industry-leading institutions. Using this blend of skillsets across a range of asset classes, sectors and jurisdictions, the team provides both strategic direction to the Firm on positioning into market shifts, and targeted market intelligence that they present, alongside our lawyers, to clients and prospective clients. Recent areas of the team’s focus include identifying opportunities arising from the European Central Bank’s Asset Quality Review and stress tests, forecasting distressed single-names in the oil and gas and consumer sectors, identifying investment opportunities in the German Mittelstand, modelling corporates that could be vulnerable to hedge fund activism and anticipating emerging market contagion risks. They have presented to investment funds, including Private Equity, Special Situations and Private Credit fund managers, Corporate clients and SOEs, across 3 continents. We expect all members of the team to be involved in the life cycle of our work. The analyst’s responsibilities will include:

    • The identification of market developments and dislocations; contributing to theme brainstorming
    • Designing tailored research and analysis; determining how to research and compile data and how to use qualitative information
    • Building financial and statistical models to interpret the data; formulating a point of view on potential commercial opportunities for the clients and the firm
    • Producing client-ready presentations and disseminating them to internal and external clients

You should be able to adapt your thinking and analysis to different industries and products as priorities shift based on market dynamics. Excellent quantitative and strong presentation skills are important to us alongside the ability to demonstrate gravitas in front of senior management, partners and clients. While this position will be located in London, there will be occasional travel to other offices and clients across the Latham global network. In return, we will provide you with multiple opportunities to push your thinking in new industries and regions with exposure to internal and external stakeholders across the Latham & Watkins network, whilst contributing to the success of the Firm. We offer a competitive salary as well as a generous total compensation package with bonuses awarded in recognition of both individual and firm performance. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent - in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Management or equivalent preferred - from a leading institution. Experience of the legal industry is not a requirement. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply by clicking the ‘Apply Now’ link. The closing date for receiving applications is 31 July 2019. Latham & Watkins is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Our commitment to diversity, equal opportunity and sustainability enables Latham & Watkins to draw from a remarkable wealth of talent to create one of the world's leading law firms.
