ABOUT THE TEAM The Global Data Privacy Office (GDPO) collaborates with the Information Governance, Security and Risk Management, and Audit and Advisory departments to ensure Firm use of personal data is compliant with US, EU and Asian data privacy laws, and other data privacy laws applicable to the Firm. They work closely with the Committee to develop strategies and initiatives to engage with key stakeholders and raise awareness of data privacy compliance across the Firm. ABOUT THE ROLE As a Senior Data Privacy Counsel, you will take the lead in managing the firm’s data privacy compliance in the UK, EU and US and will be responsible for independently assessing potential risks and developing potential solutions.  In addition, you will provide guidance and advice to key internal stakeholders globally, including our internal data protection officers, and will review projects and related data to ensure compliance with local data privacy laws. Other key responsibilities include:

    • Providing and reviewing relevant contracts and consents needed to implement projects and ensures filing requirements with local regulators are met.   
    • Keeping up to date with changes to local privacy laws and makes recommendations to the Data Privacy Committee when appropriate, including attending relevant conferences and working with a network of attorneys in Latham & Watkins overseas offices.
    • Supporting the Data Privacy Committee with setting standards and reviewing policies and procedures globally.
    • Working closely with the Data Privacy Committee to develop strategies and initiatives to ensure engagement with key internal stakeholders.

    ABOUT YOU We’d love to hear from you if you:

    • Have experience in UK and/or EU data privacy laws
    • Are pragmatic and solutions oriented
    • Have a commercial mindset and are able to use judgment and discretion when making decisions

    And have:

    • Typically approximately 3-6 years PQE experience would be preferred, however our PQE levels are only one relevant aspect and we will consider all relevant applications
    • Well developed and professional interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm.
    • Ability to undertake and drive forward large, long-term projects, develop alternative methods to complete them, and implement solutions.
