    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Plant Manager is the key production leader within the plant. This role is a player-coach with excellent leadership and communication skills, expert knowledge of converting production operations, and strength in change management and culture leadership. Our Phoenix plant is currently undergoing a major new equipment and office expansion project, including a complete reorganization of the production floor. This is an opportunity for a talented candidate to lead operational success as the site’s production capabilities expand. The ideal candidate will have experience of independent converting operations or a sheet plant environment.

    The Plant Manager is directly responsible for overseeing safety, quality, production, maintenance, and shipping activities through direct leadership of production staff. They will provide consistent oversight and direction for converting/corrugated operations, shipping operations, and maintenance in a corrugated packaging plant, while maintaining safety, efficiency, and quality of product. They should continuously audit and analyze processes, plans, and strategies to suggest improvements that will benefit safety, quality, production output and efficiency, and overall compliance of policies. Finally, they should diligently manage cost to meet budgeted expectations in labor utilization, material and services spending, and project execution.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Manage production, maintenance, and shipping operations for a facility with corrugated converting, folding carton, and foam and crating operations.
      • Plan personnel, equipment, and material resources to meet production demands with an emphasis on optimization of output vs. labor and material costs.
      • Increase production, machine capacity and flexibility
      • Manage efficiency and waste to ensure optimized production cost
      • Utilize and maintain systems and processes that track and optimize productivity standards, metrics, and performance targets
    • Directly manages the converting and wood & foam supervisors, shipping supervisor, maintenance manager, and EHS manager. Coaches for success and drives culture of accountability and progress throughout the workforce.
    • Drive and implement continuous improvement in production processes with an emphasis in quality, efficiency, delivery, and safety. Leverage site metrics to measure progress and identify further opportunities.
    • Proactively monitors and measures production department throughput and quality metrics daily; responsible for coaching, counseling, and managing employees and frontline leaders via timely feedback and development.
    • Drive and uphold company’s culture and values; maintain and exemplify high standard of professionalism, excellence, empathy, and respect.
    • Owns production operating budget. Works with Finance function to develop and optimize the budget and spending. Diligently manages cost to meet budgeted expectations in labor utilization, material and services spending, and project execution.
    • Manage talent development, succession planning, and employee performance. Partners with HR on developing a highly-skilled and cross-trained workforce and bench strength.
    • Monitor product standards and quality assurance.
    • Partners with EH&S to continuously improve and assess safety policies and standards.

    Required Skills

    REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • HS Diploma or GED Equivalent from an accredited institution
    • 5+ years leadership experience in manufacturing
    • 5+ years’ experience in the corrugated/converting industry
    • Excellent leadership skills.
      • Able to effectively coach, persuade, motivate, and direct others.
      • Able to collaborate effectively with others to achieve goals and drive continuous process improvement.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

    • Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred
    • Excellent computer skills; MS Office / ERP Systems
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent organization and time management skills
    • Previous experience with implementing behavior-based safety programs
    • Strategic planning skills
    • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
