    ABOUT THE ROLE As a Manager of Global Attorney Diversity & Inclusion – Affinity Groups, you will be responsible for working closely with the Director of Global Attorney Diversity & Inclusion and the Diversity Leadership Committee (the “DLC”), serving as a strategic advisor to support the firm’s lawyer affinity groups and blended lawyer and staff networks (collectively referred to herein as the “Affinity Groups”). The Manager will also provide best practices guidance and support to the leaders of the Multicultural Promotion and Attainment Coalitions (“MPACs”). Other key responsibilities include:

     

    • Working closely with the Director of Global Attorney Diversity & Inclusion and the DLC to provide strategic direction and support for the leaders of the Affinity Groups; assisting the Affinity Group leaders with the (i) execution of all of their global programs and initiatives and (ii) management of the infrastructure and internal processes for their groups
    • Overseeing Affinity Group leader rotations, including liaising with Office Managing Partners, the Associates Committee, and DLC leadership as well as managing orientations for all new Affinity Group leaders, including the annual orientation for the global Affinity Group leaders, which is held in connection with our Diversity Leadership Academy
    • Meeting with the leaders of each Affinity Group on a regular basis to outline and execute on the annual strategy for the groups as well as organizing quarterly meetings for the leaders of all Affinity Groups
    • Collaborating with the Senior Manager of Staff Diversity & Inclusion and the broader Staff Global Diversity Team to identify partnership opportunities between our lawyer and staff affinity groups and developing shared resources to support all affinity groups at the firm
    • Executing on global Affinity Group initiatives and programs, including global events in celebration of cultural holidays, mentoring programs, and tailored professional development programs
    • Planning and attending all Affinity Group retreats for members and leaders; this includes preparing meeting agendas, researching and lining up guest speakers, preparing internal speakers (including firm leaders), and organizing multi-day meeting logistics
    • Organizing all global Affinity Group and MPAC sessions at academies and for new hires, summer associates, and law students 
    • Developing and implementing a new year-long training program for junior underrepresented associates, which will be delivered on an annual basis through the Affinity Groups
    • Developing and implementing best practices for Affinity Group infrastructure, including regular meetings between global and local Affinity Group leaders, regular Affinity Group communications, instituting and overseeing subcommittees and working groups within Affinity Groups, leveraging Affinity Group intranet sites, and collecting formal feedback from Affinity Group members;  managing all regular reports and recordkeeping for Affinity Groups
    • Supporting the launch of all new Affinity Groups at the firm
    • In consultation with Affinity Group leaders, developing the annual budgets for all of the Affinity Groups;  assisting with review and approval of Affinity Group expense requests throughout the year 
    • Coordinating Affinity Group-led pro bono projects, Affinity Group participation in recruiting activities, and Affinity Group events with clients  
    • Managing all Affinity Group-led sponsorships of external organizations and outside conferences 
    • Preparing awards submissions for Affinity Groups and Affinity Group leaders;  preparing diversity, equity and inclusion-related award submissions on behalf of the firm, including the Seramount Best Law Firms For Women survey, the Yale Law Women survey, and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index / Best Places to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality survey
    • Providing support to MPAC leaders, including supporting the launch of new MPAC chapters, providing orientations for new MPAC leaders, organizing quarterly calls for all MPAC leaders to encourage information sharing and coordination across offices, and coordinating global activities co-hosted by MPAC and the Affinity Groups 
    • Working closely with the broader DLC administrative team, including the Manager of Global Attorney Diversity & Inclusion, the Manager of Global Attorney Diversity & Inclusion – Client Initiatives, the Senior Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator – Client Initiatives, and the Global Attorney Diversity & Inclusion Coordinator 
    • Ensuring continuous service enhancements through benchmarking with law firm peers and by evaluating ways in which existing Affinity Group initiatives, structures and administration can be improved
    • Collaborating with staff members at all levels of the firm’s administrative departments, including the Staff Global Diversity Team, Human Resources, the Office of General Counsel, Brand and Communications, Operations, Technology and others to exchange information and coordinate Affinity Group initiatives
    • Collaborating with attorney and staff members across firm committees, including Pro Bono, Recruiting, Associates, and Women Enriching Business, to exchange information and coordinate Affinity Group initiatives 
    • Completing special projects regarding various issues as needed for the Attorney Development Department
    • Promoting a fully inclusive environment, employing effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers

     

    ABOUT YOU We’d love to hear from you if you:

     

    • Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
    • Display advanced communication skills, both written and verbal and are particularly adept at drafting professional, concise and compelling proposals, emails, invitations, announcements, presentations, talking points, and executive summaries
    • Possess organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, handle multiple deadlines and projects, and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
    • Display leadership skills necessary for effective management, independent judgment and discretion, and strategic thinking 
    • Possess well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm, including both attorneys and staff, as well as law student recruits and clients

     

    And have:

     

    • A Bachelor’s degree is required; Juris Doctorate preferred
    • A minimum of five (5) years relevant diversity or professional services experience required (with a strong preference for law firm experience)
    • A minimum of three (3) years managerial experience is desired
