As a Secretarial Supervisor at Latham, you will be responsible for supervising the secretarial programs in the practice office. You will develop and supervise your staff by performing a multitude of responsibilities, including but not limited to, hiring, assignments, training, evaluations, discipline, and terminations, while accomplishing these and other critical functions:
As a Secretarial Supervisor, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Secretarial Supervisor must have excellent leadership skills necessary for effective management, well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm. The successful candidate will have the ability to manage support staff while communicating up, working with office leaders, and understanding the priorities of the firm. The Secretarial Supervisor will have the ability to work in a team environment with a customer service focus; strong communication skills, both written and verbal; organizational skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines; and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion. The ideal applicant will have the ability to use independent judgment and discretion when making majority of decisions, the ability to proofread work of others to ensure compliance and accuracy, and the ability to act as an advocate for team members. The Secretarial Supervisor must have an aptitude to learn Latham policies and procedures surrounding the billing system, as well as have knowledge of all secretarial skills and be able to step in to support the secretaries and provide coverage when needed. The candidate should have knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, including MS Office. A Bachelor’s degree is required. A minimum of eight (8) years HR experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a supervisory/management capacity, preferably in a law firm, are required. Legal Secretary experience is desired.
