    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    The Registered Nurse administers medically prescribed treatment, coordinates nursing care, and monitors the performance of acceptable standards of nursing care on his/her assigned nursing unit.

    The Registered Nurse must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the residents served on his/her unit – adult through geriatric.  The Registered Nurse must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for individuals for whom the nurse is responsible.  The Registered Nurse provides care needed as described in the Nursing Department’s policies and procedures.

    EDUCATION:

     Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.

     WORK EXPERIENCE:

     Minimum of one (1) year of satisfactory experience in geriatric setting preferred.

     SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

     Must be cleared by PA State Police criminal history check.

    Possession of a current license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nurse Examiners required.

    CPR Certification required or must be obtained and must be maintained.

    Must maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Allied Services.

    Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills required for effective interaction with staff, residents and visitors.

    Good management skills required.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

     Heavy Work: duties require exerting 25-50 lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or 10-25 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.  Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in strained position) throughout shift.  Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.

    CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB

    Administers medication and performs treatments to assigned residents. Administers IV’s and IV medications in accordance with policies and procedures.  Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding residents to the appropriate person (i.e., Charge Nurse, Unit Manager and/or nursing supervisor) and records those observations accurately and concisely.  Provides for exceptional customer service, utilizing interpersonal communication skills and behavior management skills, including positive reinforcement.  Answers call lights. Assists residents with personal hygiene and other activities of daily living.  Assigns nursing care to team members in accordance with the resident’s needs and the personnel’s capabilities and qualifications, and assigns other duties as needed. Assists team members in giving care to residents or administers direct care when needed.
