As a Global Benefits Generalist at Latham, you will be responsible for assisting the administration of existing firm benefit policies. The Benefits Generalist supports the department and the local offices by ensuring that staff and attorneys have access to a centralized resource and uses his/her knowledge of the firm’s benefits programs to answer questions, facilitate enrollments, and monitor life style event changes for benefits purposes. He or she also will develop and maintain relationships with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and vendors at the firm while accomplishing these and other critical functions:

    • Monitoring benefit telephone line and e-mail box in an effort to respond to benefits-related questions from staff and attorneys at the firm
    • Acting as a centralized point of contact and responding to questions from the local offices regarding firm benefits; understanding benefits eligibility rules for all health, welfare, workers’ compensation and retirement benefits; answering benefits questions from attorneys, paralegals, and staff, and using appropriate resources in the Global Benefits Department as needed
    • Leading benefits portion of new hire orientation for attorneys and staff in the various offices; ensuring understanding of the programs offered by the firm and awareness of enrollment deadlines
    • Promoting the value added benefits of the firm with a goal of increasing awareness and participation; planning health and wellness events for the local offices as needed throughout the year
    • Maintaining relationships with key departments in the office and the firm including the Payroll Department, Accounting Department and Information Technology
    • Assisting with settlement of claim disputes
    • Establishing relations with insurance carriers, vendors, by handling day-to-day administration of group plans
    • Coordinating and assisting with firm-wide annual benefits enrollment renewals; educating participants by providing clear and complete information in accordance with group policy, terms, and conditions
    • Assisting with developing benefit communications, detailed benefit summaries, and presentations
    • Assisting with market research and preparing census data as part of requests for proposals for all firm administered benefit programs
    • Advising management of observed trends, unanswered requests, potential problems, or critical issues in order to troubleshoot problem areas before they escalate and interfere with benefit efforts
    • Keeping abreast of general benefits trends and conducting market research in order to make recommendations to management regarding existing and future benefit plans
    • Working with brokers and carriers regarding ongoing service issues; working with the Leave of Absence Team as needed; assisting with special projects regarding various benefit issues as needed
    • Promoting effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers

    As a Global Benefits Generalist, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Global Benefits Generalist must have knowledge of benefit practices and comprehensive knowledge of the terms and conditions of health and welfare plans to ensure the proper administration by insurers and vendors. Well developed and professional interpersonal skills are desired with the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm. The Generalist must display the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion. Knowledge and proficiency with Human Resources Information Systems, preferably PeopleSoft, is desired. A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s degree preferred.     • Knowledge, skills and experience in planning and defining operational requirements for local and wide area communications networks (voice, data, and video).
    • Experience with testing and evaluations of modeling and simulation (M&S) and Command and Control (C2) Systems.
    • Experience in the ability to develop and maintain web-based joint training.
    • Experience in developing and managing unique aspects of software intensive programs.
    • Experience with managing and integrating web-based training products (including software, hardware, and network aspects).
    • Familiarity and experience with Java 9 “WildFly”, Oracle 10i – moving to PostGres SQL, Tools supporting Java Enterprise Edition such as Hibernate Java Servlet Specification, Java Server Faces, and Java EE Context Dependency Injection.
    • Shareable Content Object Reference Model support, Hypertext Markup Language 5 support, DoD Command Access Card Public Key Infrastructure, Schema Design, Production Language, Structured Query Language, and Database Optimization.
    • Analyze code, identify area of improvement for cybersecurity, enhance performance of the mobile learning suite servers, as well as their methodology for analyzing, designing, developing, testing, and fielding enhancements.
    • Understanding of the use of Jenkins, Eclipse, Subversion, and Bugzilla
