Reed Smith is looking for an IT Help Desk Intern in our Global Customer
Centre (Pittsburgh) office to assist in handling end-user computer
hardware and software support questions for the global offices of the
firm in a 24 X 7 environment. Excellent customer service skills and
ability to communicate with non-technical users required. We will
consider students from all majors who have a desire to develop a career
path in technology. Must be able to work a minimun of 20 hours per week
during regular business hours. We will accomodate school schedules. Must
be punctual and reliable. Essential Functions * Serve as the first point
of contact for users with complex issues in various Microsoft Office
2010 products, as well as other technical hardware and software issues.
- Reset user passwords and grace logins, and grant document access with
appropriate approval. * Maintain required recordkeeping, including
logging calls into the HEAT database, reporting time, and others as
directed. * Escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate IT Team. *
Report unusual, alarming or recurring problems to the Network Operations
Center and/or Supervisor or Manager as appropriate. * Gain working
knowledge of all Firm deployed applications. * Report common issues to
IT Help Desk Manager to facilitate long-term solutions. * Provide
assistance in testing new or upgraded applications. * Special projects
as requested by the IT Help Desk Manager, Senior Manager of IT Help Desk
& Training, or Director of IT Operations. Requirements Education:
Bachelors Degree or working towards a Bachelors Degree in any major
field of study. Skills: Strong PC, Windows, and applications knowledge.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain a customer-service focus and positive attitude at
all times. Other Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Equipment to be
Used: Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone,
calculator, fax machine, copier, scanner, etc. Typical Physical Demands:
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment. May
require lifting up to 35 pounds. Typical Mental Demands: Able to deal
with stress associated with fast-paced work environment. Multiple
priorities/tasks. Make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work
situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various
personalities at all levels. Working Conditions: Works in a typical
office setting. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your
