As a Specialist – Editorial Services at Latham, you will be responsible for a wide variety of writing / marketing communications / editing projects. Writing projects will include high-quality short and longer form content, targeting a range of internal and external audiences, including, clients, media, alumni, Latham lawyers, and personnel. Editing projects will include marketing content, lawyer-authored articles and alerts, blog posts, video transcripts, and one-off projects drafted by Business Development as well as Brand & Communications colleagues. You will work closely with the Brand & Communications group to develop content that speaks in the firm’s tone of voice, and furthers the firm’s brand, considering both language and related visual/content marketing aspects; in some cases, you will produce content through research with other BD team members, other administrative counterparts, or partners. You will act as a resource for brainstorming ideas and a strategic advice answering questions on style, tone, and positioning, while accomplishing these and other critical functions:
As a Specialist – Editorial Services, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Specialist – Editorial Services must have well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm and outside the firm. The Specialist must also have excellent language skills including reading, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary to ensure proper and efficient writing, organization skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively and handle multiple deadlines, and demonstrated ability to write quickly and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, ability to communicate skillfully to different audiences, and demonstrated ability to explain complex subject matter in plain English are also required. The ideal candidate should have familiarity with AP style and demonstrated ability to write to specific style guidelines, familiarity with social media; ability to develop and carry out social media communication, strategies a plus, and knowledge of core public relations principals including internal communications, seminar/event planning, branding, market research, and competitive intelligence.
A Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or communications, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required. A Graduate degree in communications or business is a plus. A minimum of five (5) years of communications, public relations, and/or journalism experience is desired.
