Work under general supervision, assisting with a variety of planning and development tasks associated with the States Homeland Security Strategic planning. Conduct research on homeland security-related topics assigned by supervisor. ** ** ** ESSENTIAL DUTIES** 1. Assist with development of strategy, plans, and policy related to risk assessments and development of Texas homeland security capabilities. 2. Conduct research projects relevant to Texas homeland security as directed. 3. Assist with planning of homeland security training and exercises. 4. Perform data gathering and compilation related to homeland security issues. 5. Provide focused administrative assistance as required. ** QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS (Required unless otherwise stated)** Education - Currently enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university with a minimum of 60 semester hours completed. Working towards a degree in government, political science, public policy, economics, criminal justice, or a related field. Minimum 3.0 grade point average overall. Experience - N/A Background investigation - Satisfactory driver license and criminal history checks. Analytical skills - Must be analytical, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task without sacrificing accuracy or timeliness. Ability to analyze problems, identify causative factors, and apply actions to effectively resolve current issues and prevent recurrences of problem conditions. Interpersonal skills Must exercise excellent interpersonal skills position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, diplomacy, and an ability to establish and maintain effective working/professional relationships with internal and external customers. Organizational skills - Must be organized, flexible, and able to prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy or timelines; ability to work independently; and to understand and effectively apply complex oral and written instructions and procedures. Computer systems / hardware / software Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Confidentiality Must be able to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
