    We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Workers' Compensation Paralegal (Bi-lingual) to join our dynamic personal injury legal team. The Workers' Compensation (WC) Paralegal must be client-orientated and an independent thinking who can effectively manage a large caseload of workers' compensation claims from inception through resolution, with guidance from the Workers' Compensation Attorney and WC Team Lead.

    This role requires the ability to exercise sound judgement, including occasional discretion and independent decision making. The WC Paralegal must balance strong attention to detail with a big-picture approach, possess a solid understanding of workers' compensation law, demonstrate excellent organizational skills, and consistently deliver exceptional client service.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Case Management: Effectively managing up to 150 cases and organize all case-related correspondence and documents from clients, courts, and opposing counsel, ensuring timely responses and comprehensive documentation. Managing cases from inception to resolution, including handling disbursements.

    Deadline Management & Calendaring: Calendaring court deadlines, attorney meetings, service and response deadlines, and updating the calendar with hearings, client meetings, depositions, mediations, etc.

    Medical Records & Bills: Overseeing the collection, summarization, and maintenance of medical records and bills in preparation for mediations and hearings, ensuring all relevant records are organized and accessible, and creating an ongoing list of unpaid medical expenses.

    Client Communication: Maintaining clear, professional, and proactive communication with clients regarding discovery requests, case updates, strategic developments, medical treatment, and benefits.

    Drafting: Drafting, reviewing, and proofreading, correspondence, discovery responses, motions, affidavits, notices of deposition, pre-trial agreements, and other legal documents.

    Commission Filings: Filing forms and legal documents with the North Carolina Industrial Commission, including e-filing. Manage the service-of-process for legal documents and summonses in compliance with Commission rules.

    Deadline Management: Tracking and managing all deadlines, including discovery timelines, responses to motions, mediations, hearings, depositions, and expert testimony.

    Scheduling & Coordination: Coordinating and scheduling depositions, mediations, meetings with clients.

    Discovery Management: Preparing responses and supplementing discovery requests in a timely and accurate manner while ensuring compliance with case-specific needs and timelines.

    File Review & Maintenance: Reviewing case files for completeness, identifying missing documents, and ensuring the accuracy and proper filing of all case-related materials. Maintain an ongoing list of unpaid medical expenses.

    Leadership: Effectively leading and coordinating legal assistant(s) and overseeing tasks to ensure optimal productivity and success.

    Software Utilization: Leveraging online resources, software tools, and Case Management System for the case lifecycle, investigation, and collection of background information as needed.

    Administrative Tasks: Copying, scanning, mailing, filing, and other administrative projects.

    Additional Tasks: Performing any other tasks required to support the efficient and effective management of ongoing workers’ compensation cases.

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    Associate’s degree is required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and certification can be substituted for this requirement.

    NC Paralegal certificate preferred or relevant studies.

    Must have or be willing to obtain NC Notary.

    Must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in workers’ compensation as a paralegal or case manager.

    Legal Knowledge: Strong knowledge and understanding of workers’ compensation processes and rules.

    Organizational Excellence: Exceptional organizational skills and time-management capabilities with the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and manage a high caseload.

    Reliability: Demonstrates a high level of reliability and integrity; consistently follows through on commitments and earns trust by being dependable and accountable in all tasks.

    Analytical Acumen: Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities, with keen attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of case management.

    Deadline Management: Proven ability to manage competing deadlines and proactively track case milestones to ensure timely and efficient progress.

    Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and any external parties.

    Technology Proficiency: Proficient in the use of case management software such as GrowPath or Filevine as well as other legal tools to enhance case tracking and documentation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and legal research databases such as Westlaw and LexisNexis.
