Each athletic counselor is hired to teach a specific sport based on their experience and qualifications. Most have played at the high school and/or college level and many have previous coaching experience. Coaches will help boys ages 7 to 15 learn the basics of a specific sport.
In addition to teaching 3 to 4 classes a day, male counselors live in bunks with campers and female counselors serve as "bunk moms" to younger kids.
Coaches will help the boys learn the fundamentals of basketball. Counselors will provide instruction as well as referee games. Younger boys learn how to dribble with both hands, pass, shoot, set picks, and play defense. As they get older, campers learned more advanced concepts about positioning, man-to-man and zone defenses, running an offense, and situational strategies. Our top-notch facilities include five basketball courts. We have two indoor courts with glass backboards and electronic scoring, along with three outdoor courts sized for campers of various ages.
Camp Takajo is a premiere, traditional summer camp for boys. We offer a variety of activities in land sports, watersports, fine arts and outdoor education.
