    Data Science Intern (Healthcare) at CIAI will have the opportunity to apply your programming and problem-solving skills to real decisions impacting healthcare challenges today. The Data Science Intern is responsible for interpreting data and turning it into insights that can offer ways to improve a business and ultimately help deliver better patient care. As an intern, you would have the opportunity to dive deep into multiple data sources, analyze how those data sources intersect and help interpret patterns and trends. Once data has been interpreted, the Data Science Intern will report back what has been found in a comprehensive study to the wider business/relevant colleagues.

    Duties and responsibilities of the job:

    Data Science Interns often make recommendations about the methods and ways in which a company obtains and analyzes data to improve the quality and the efficiency of business decisions. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to refine your analytical skills and have the opportunity to break down complex methods into descriptions that can be understood at multiple levels within the organization from the Executive team (C-Suite) who examine data at a very high level, to the managers and directors who will get into the details with you. The intern will be responsible for:

    • Interpret and analyze data from multiple sources including claims, provider, member, and encounters information available in the data publicly available through CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and in patient de-identified claim level data commercially available to Life Sciences companies
    • Programmatically transform, combine, and clean data in preparation for analysis. Document data definitions and issues for future reference
    • Conduct observational analyses using R or Python to explore data, test hypotheses, predict outcomes and inform decisions
    • Partner cross-functionally and effectively communicate findings and insights, both verbally and visually, to non-technical clients or business partners
  • Qualifications
    • Bachelors degree in business, economics, statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, public health, health informatics, healthcare administration, or equivalent experience
    • Experience working on healthcare data published by CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) or other commercially available datasets for insights generation
    • Knowledge of basic statistical, analytical, or data mining techniques including basic data modeling, trend analysis, and root-cause analysis preferred
    • Basic working knowledge of SQL for data manipulation
    • Preferable to have exposure to any 1 out of SAS, R, or Python
    • Comfort in MS Office (working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint)
    • Ability to write comprehensive reports
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • An analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving
