West Monroe’s Digital Products & Experiences team works on transformative digital solutions to human problems West Monroe’s Digital Products & Experiences group is looking for a Digital Strategy Intern who wants to learn from and contribute to our digital product teams. Formerly known as GoKart Labs, our Product Studio uses its collective talent and creativity to create digital products and experiences that inspire, using human-centered design.

Why This Job Is Important What’s the point of great experience design if it doesn’t connect with people who recognize and prove its value in the real world? Our Product Studio is committed to not only creating lovable digital products and services, but also uncovering effective ways to attract, engage, and retain users. We believe “product-market fit” is a behavior, not a status. It means staying super-smart about the people you’re designing for, working to earn their attention and trust, and building mutually valuable brand relationships over time. The Go-to-Market Strategy Intern is an active participant in this process, combining human curiosity with measurement and marketing instincts to help acquire, activate, and delight users.

About You You know good marketing goes way beyond “getting the most clicks.” You understand that modern brands need to connect with audiences on a human level, while also relying more than ever on technology to scale impact. You’re keenly interested in what motivates consumer behavior — now and in the future. You’re ready and eager to explore the digital landscape in search of ways to make meaningful connections between real people and businesses that can benefit their lives. You’re looking for a hands-on opportunity to collaborate with smart, compassionate people working at the intersection of technology, digital marketing, human needs, and business growth.

What You Will Be Doing You’ll be partnered with one or more of our Product Studio teams to help chart a successful course for digital products/services, guided by the real-world needs and marketing challenges our clients face. Your work will include efforts to support high-level market research, competitive analysis, user experience research, journey mapping, and strategies to drive audience engagement.

What You Will Learn You’ll benefit from connecting and collaborating daily with cross-functional teams who apply expertise in strategy, storytelling, digital product, human-centered design, and technology. You’ll also have access to resources and people who know how to support creative ideas with a strong business case. You’ll get a unique chance to boost your aptitude in go-to-market research and/or digital growth strategy.

  • Qualifications

What You Are Good At You have strong interpersonal and communication skills. You’re a natural “inquisitor” — always ready and willing to ask good questions, never diving too far into a solution idea without validating risky assumptions. You know “enough to be dangerous” about digital marketing concepts/platforms. You’re comfortable jumping into any project with an open mind about how you can add value. You love brainstorming creative ideas that could help engage an audience. You’re unafraid of big challenges, and you’re excited to take ownership of key project components with the knowledge that you’ve got smart, capable teammates backing you up.

What You Have Done You have a demonstrated interest in modern marketing, either through relevant post-secondary studies or ancillary pursuits outside the classroom. You’ve contributed to one or more planning exercises for how a business/brand — real or hypothetical — might grow its audience. You’ve thought about possible career paths in digital marketing and can articulate which areas you’d like to explore.

Bonus Points Additional “nice-to-have” background for this role could include: basic familiarity with principles of human-centered design; basic familiarity with marketing automation or analytics tools (e.g., Hubspot, Marketo, Google Analytics); consumer research/interviewing skills; experience with survey tools (e.g., SurveyMonkey)

Required Choose one of the following prompts and write a response in 1,000 words or less. Please submit with your application.

    1. Think about a digital experience (e.g., mobile app, streaming service, social platform, e-commerce channel) that you use faithfully. How did you first discover it? If you were in charge of marketing it today, what general ideas would you pursue for trying to acquire and engage more users?

    2. It’s hard to understate just how much data and analytics are powering the digital experiences that we use every day. What are your thoughts about the role of user data in how businesses evolve their digital offerings? What should users expect from a brand in return for information that they voluntarily provide?

    3. Among the many ways COVID-19 has impacted consumer behavior, one of them is a loosening of brand loyalty. Research has shown that more than half of Americans have switched or tried a new brand since the pandemic began. What do you think this means for businesses that want to thrive going forward?
