    Undergraduate Intern / Co-op Program Overview

    • 6 months intern / co-op within a functional area of MKS Instruments that provides students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

    Through our partnership with UMass Lowell , we are looking for an exceptional APPLICATIONS ENGINEER who can effectively support laboratory management and data collection for our infrared-based instruments. These instruments are used in many fields including automotive gas emissions testing, pollution compliance testing, R&D for renewable fuels, catalyst development, semiconductor gas process control, monitoring of natural gas quality, etc...

    Key job functions include:

    • Operate and collect data from FTIR or other IR-based analyzers

    • Setup, operate and maintain gas sampling equipment (gas blending, gas cylinders, mass flow controllers, water vapor generators)

    • Manage demonstration equipment (maintenance, tracking, shipping)

    • Perform spectroscopic data analysis using in-house software

    • Assist with optical or electronic data acquisition as needed

    What you will bring to the team, along with your curiosity and interest in addressing environmental issues is:

    Applicants must be enrolled as students at UMass Lowell, and position duties include:

    • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program for Physics, Chemistry or Engineering

    • 3rd or 4th year student at UMass Lowell

    • Qualified candidate should be a US Person

    • Knowledge of FTIR instrumentation and optics a strong plus but not required

    • Strong organization skills to be able to collect, store, and retrieve information and data

    • Strong communication skills (both written and oral) in order to effectively communicate with other team members

    • Ability to work independently and within a cross-functional team

    • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
