    Graduate Student Program Overview

    • 12 week summer internship program for advanced degree students in Master’s or PhD programs. This program will provide students a comprehensive and engaging experience from before your program starts to after the program ends.

    We are looking for an exceptional OPTICAL ENGINEER who can bring growing expertise in optics, physics or a related field to designing and fabricating truly state of the art diffraction gratings, which exist nowhere else in the world. You’ll have an opportunity to be part of our Engineering team to contribute to a broad design and manufacturing process which involves work with holographic exposure systems, coating deposition processes, optomechanical hardware design, and test fixture design and operation.

    • Design/model and test optical diffraction gratings. Primary work related to design of optical components for semiconductor and analytical instrumentation industries

    • Closely work with R&D engineering and customers from design phase in providing input for manufacturability and testability to successfully bring prototype into production

    • Mechanical simulations of interactions of metal with various tools using ainite element analysis

    • Technical project management along with the desire to research, investigate and evaluate technical processes

    What will you bring to the team, along with your curiosity, is:

    • Being currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD Degree program for Optics, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or a related field; expected graduation date of December 2023 or May 2024

    • Currently have a BS in Optics, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering

    • Proficient in finite element analysis software, and CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar

    • Desirable: Knowledge of optics manufacturing, or related experience with optical manufacturing processes, laser physics and ideally, holographic optics

    • Comfort with analytical thought processes; data-driven and results-oriented

    • Basic project management skills

    • Creativity in approaching problem solving, and comfort working individually and with small teams

    • Qualified candidates should be US Persons
