Job Summary: The person hired for the position of Product Engineer will primarily be responsible for driving continuous quality improvement, developing product specifications and maintaining customer alignment. The engineer will support the Multi-Layer Optical Film products produced for - Film in Decatur, AL. This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career. Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: + Lead the Customer Strategic Deployment ( - ) process for Optical Film products + Create and publish monthly - metrics and product scorecards + Be a primary and key contact for products produced in Decatur + Establish and maintain product specifications in accordance with customer requirements + Develop and update test methods and consensus standards to drive quality improvements + Support local and global manufacturing teams on rapid resolution of customer complaints; including timely response, communication and implementation of corrective actions + Lead and support quality improvement projects and quality audits in manufacturing + Use of Lean, Six Sigma and Value stream tools to drive improvements + Perform capability assessments and cost estimates for new opportunities + Drive process development, recommend new equipment and modification to support cost improvements and new product introductions + Maintain awareness of customer needs and industry trends and translate those into measurable specifications and test methods for product development and manufacturing + Coordination of training on new systems or processes + Work with internal and external resources as needed to accomplish objectives + As necessary, ability to cover production runs in a 24/7 manufacturing environment Basic Qualifications: + Possess a Bachelors degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution + Minimum three (3) years of combined experience in a quality, product or manufacturing engineering role and/or experience with product/process development in a private, public, government or military environment Preferred Qualifications: + Bachelors degree or higher in an engineering discipline + Experience in batch chemical manufacturing, extrusion, film making, coating, and/or winding + Combined experience in a quality, product or manufacturing engineering role and/or experience with product/process development + Strong organization, communication, project management, and coaching skills + - medical device experience Location: Decatur, AL Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international Relocation: Is authorized Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).
