    JOB TITLE:Automation Engineer

    LOCATION: West Bend, WI

    SUMMARY:

    As a key member of the plant operations team, the Automation Engineer will provide critical technical support to prepare manufacturing in automation and systems to produce products while continuously improving safety, quality and flow in our manufacturing processes. With a strong robotics background you will bring your technical knowledge of automation systems, controls equipment, machine tending automation integrations and support equipment to help our manufacturing operations achieve their safety, quality, delivering and cost goals. Moreover, you will be supported by a leadership team that values Lean Manufacturing principles and understands the value and link to achieve operational excellence.

    DAY IN THE LIFE:

    • Lead Robotic & Control Engineer to work with Maintenance Manager, Manufacturing Engineers & Production Supervisors to introduce new automation systems to our Production Facility
    • Specify, quote & purchase all automation components and systems needed to improve SQDC in our manufacturing plant
    • Current equipment is Denso, but knowledge in Fanuc & Collaborative Cobots is desired, to support troubleshoot issues and make recommendations on improvements
    • Develop robot programs, machine to robot communications links & controls interfaces with support equipment
    • Train new operators on the latest new technologies. Explore new technologies in advanced manufacturing processes.
    • Ensure manufacturing cells are producing quality products, safely and on-time to the next cell or customer at an acceptable cost.
    • Work with Maintenance personal to do installations per Engineered specifications
    • Work with robotic & controls suppliers to procure the latest technologies that are “right sized” for our applications and at a reasonable cost
    • Capital equipment and project implementations
    • Establish and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders

    OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

    • Interfacing with a multitude of various personalities & attitudes and still maintain a professional demeanor.
    • Develop innovative automation process to reduce labor, improve safety and maintain current quality standards on existing and new products
    • Can develop robot programs, plc & controls programs, machine communications capabilities & work instructions. 
    • Understands vision systems, machining specifications and machine tool capabilities on machines that are automated
    • Capable of troubleshooting all robot programming, robot to machine communications & how work-holding interfaces with the automation
    • Provide recommendations in automation equipment, obtain quotations and purchase parts and manage the procurement process
    • Capable of cost justification process and communicating cost/benefits to stakeholders.
    • Will work to promote the Health, Safety and Environment along with the well-being of the individual.  Responsible for the day-to-day execution of safety processes while remaining mindful that nothing is more important than performing the job safely.     EDUCATIONAL & CERTIFICATION

    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or closely related technical field of study, or a minimum of five (5-7) years of experience working in a robotic engineering environment required. Has experience in robotic & controls programming and trouble shooting. Robot to machine integration with knowledge of material in/out to the automation. Experience in Microsoft Windows Operating System.

    PREFERRED SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

    Vision for automation, safety cages, general special machine build understanding (Small assembly or test machine built for Weasler applications) & general PLC programming and troubleshooting.
