BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION:
The job holder will provide support to the Design Team Manager for the on time delivery of design, development and technical support of standard and non-standard products. Strive to continuously improve using LEAD techniques to remove cost, improve design and quality. The jobholder will support Quality Assurance initiatives with regards to design process and customer satisfaction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the Design Team Manager to ensure efficiency within the drawing office.
- Work with colleagues from all areas of the business to develop innovative design solutions aimed at providing practical, effective portable machine tool solutions.
- Understand a design brief and convert this into solutions that combine technological innovation with practicality and high quality to ensure that the designs are compliant to appropriate standards and directives, fit for purpose and can be manufactured in a cost effective manner.
- Take responsibility to design, develop & detail engineering drawings to company & customer specifications using 2D & 3D SolidWorks software, hand calculations and FEA.
- Assist in maintaining and developing drawing office standards policies & procedures.
- Maintain electronic & hard copy file management including archives.
- Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) to be maintained utilising quality management systems currently in place.
- Close liaison with sales teams to ensure specifications and customer requirements are fully met, from initial enquiry to commission.
- Compile the necessary technical documentation to fulfill contractual requirements, quality procedures, design codes and statutory directives.
- Business system part numbers and product structure creation and maintenance.
- To develop, mentor and train other Design Engineers in the team.
- To work in a manner that protects the health, safety and welfare of yourself and others.
- Actively participate in Company improvement initiatives including LEAD.
- To adhere to all Company policies and procedures.
Required Skills
- Degree/HNC in mechanical engineering or suitable Engineering qualification with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.
- Proficient in using SolidWorks 3D computer aided design.
- Working knowledge of FEA (ANSYS).
- Proficient with MS office applications, Word, Excel, Outlook.
