Agilent Technologies is seeking a Polymer Chemist for its growing consumables manufacturing facility located in Folsom, California. Agilent's laboratory consumables business is an industry leader in innovation, market share and performance. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience working in a fast-paced, high-throughput, leading-edge manufacturing facility, producing products used world-wide for ensuring quality and compliance in such areas as: consumer products, pharmaceuticals, drug testing, environmental monitoring, Homeland Security, forensics, and others. Responsible for the synthesis, testing, and preparation of polymers and monomers to fulfill manufacturing needs. The individual will work closely and collaborate with the supervisor, production planner, and the technical support group to ensure the production of high-quality material with assurance of supply to the production floor. Responsibilities will include: * Solutions Preparation - Develops and coordinates individual workload schedule for assigned polymer area. Prepares solutions for the production floor and ensures production has the materials needed on schedule in an efficient and organized manner. Sets up and synthesizes polymers, monomers, and other chemicals. Tests all final products and starting materials as needed. Maintains lab area organization and cleanliness, including documentation and historical records. Monitors inventory levels and alerts technicians and technical group to approaching problems. * Troubleshooting/Special Processes - Assists on improvement projects and works directly with technical group to lead and organize troubleshooting efforts. Subject matter expert who is a point person for special processes and other process issues. Identifies and implements improvements within their assigned area as well as between work areas. * Teamwork - Leads by example through demonstration of standards of business conduct, good work ethic and respectful communication skills. Participates, cooperates and contributes as part of a team. Provides feedback to supervisor or technical support group on safety, quality, interpersonal and process related issues. Serves as a change agent who actively supports management programs and encourages new idea generation. Escalates any issues requiring management attention. * Assists with troubleshooting processes and equipment currently deployed in the manufacturing and testing of Gas Phase consumable products. * Gathers data and executes experiments in support of 6-Sigma and Lean continual improvement projects * Participates, cooperates and contributes as part of a team * Supports quality investigations through hands on investigations and data retrieval and processing.
