With over 60 locations across the US, there are opportunities to work in a variety of places around the country The Continuous Improvement (CI) Intern is a position in Arconics corporate Continuous Improvement organization. The role is comprised of training designed to provide interns with a comprehensive knowledge of Arconics system of lean manufacturing, known as ABS. CI Interns learn ABS through, one-on-one coaching from CI Managers, and shop-floor improvement activities and kaizens. Heavy emphasis is placed on experiential learning, known as learn by doing. During the assignment, CI Interns are exposed to multiple production processes, and multiple ABS coaches, to broaden their exposure and learning experiences to prepare them for future entry level positions in the company. Essential Functions: Examples of the responsibilities for the Continuous improvement intern include but are not limited to: Participate in and help lead successful kaizen events with both internal and external consultants, customers, and suppliers, with a major emphasis on locally focused improvement. Assist team leaders in team skill and knowledge development to support meeting management goals, project management, improvements, results measurements, problem solving, and related team skills. Provide assistance and support to identify opportunities for improvements. Assist in the collection of data for tracking improvements. Coordinate with resource departments to fabricate, install, and implement improvements Ensure that all work activities are performed in accordance with established safety and environmental standards. Maintain full compliance with Company policies, procedures, and conduct all activities in accordance with the Arconic Guide to Business Conduct. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: 3.0 GPS and Above Must be currently enrolled in a bachelors Degree program with a major in Operations, Manufacturing, Engineering, or Business Management. Must have an expected graduation date of August 2019, December 2019, or April/May/June 2020. Must be involved in at least 1 extracurricular activity Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer candidates be enrolled in bachelors degree programs in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering, from an accredited institution. Previous Internships in Manufacturing operations that provided experience making improvements on the shop floor. Knowledge of, and experience with, Toyota Production System (TPS) principles. Knowledge of, and experience with, Lean Six Sigma principles. Outstanding interpersonal and teaming skills including the ability to work well on cross-functional teams. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization; ability to prepare and present training Computer Skills - knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Good planning and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment.
