Job Description
SUMMARY:
The Environment, Health, & Safety Manager will be responsible for programs and practices that ensure the safety, health and environment for a seasonally adjusted workforce of up to 600 employees at our Kinston, NC window manufacturing plant.
OBJECTIVES:
- The EHS Manager position is responsible for developing, planning, coordinating and directing environmental and health/safety activities to ensure employee engagement, regulatory compliance and implement the EHS management system to protect human health and the environment.
DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish a culture that is aligned with AMI’s EHS goals and objectives, with continuous EHS improvements
- Manage, direct, coach, lead, and motivate plant personnel to achieve EHS goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner, while continuously striving to improve safety skills & awareness
- Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating EHS compliance activities through functional teams, and with direction of AMI’s EHS Director
- Act as key EHS liaison with location manufacturing and maintenance organizations assisting in the execution of their strategic and tactical EHS plans
- Assist in the development and implementation of Environmental, Health and Safety programs and activities for the facility to achieve, maintain and exceed compliance with relevant regulatory laws and regulations as well as comply with AMI’s policies, standards and procedures
- Responsible for directing incident investigations identifying root causes of EHS Incidents and executing sustainable corrective actions.
- Identify and develop good working relationships with federal, state and local authorities (i.e., safety agencies, fire departments, etc.) as well as appropriate internal Environmental, Health and Safety contacts
- Develop, coordinate and/or conduct EH&S training programs
- Coordinate and assist in the execution of capital EHS projects to ensure compliance with requirements and completion on a timely basis. This includes recommendation of EHS capital equipment purchases and other equipment to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
- Lead and assist employee safety teams to understand and own safety and compliance down to the lowest level.
- Assist in providing information for Workers Compensation requests (incident investigations)
- Responsible for driving processes that will result in a reduction of accidents and injuries and the identification of potential hazards present in the workplace.
- Advise, develop, and facilitate safety training to new shop floor employees and supervisors.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS:
- The EHS Manager reports directly to AMI’s EHS Director with dotted line to location’s Plant Manager
- Internal relationships include support to human resources, engineering, staff, supervisors and other plant personnel.
- External relationships include contacts with Corporate EHS staff, government representatives, suppliers, equipment vendors, contractors and others on matters related to EHS.
- The position will require expertise in Safety and Health with limited Environmental oversight.
