    MISSION / SUMMARY:

    Manage daily operational activities and ten associates assigned to the Load Control Center.  Directs work flow of Transportation Management Specialists I, II and III.  Delegates daily functional activities to the Transportation Management Specialist Leads to support load planning responsibilities.  Specific tasks dedicated to oversight, administration and use of the corporate Transportation Management System by department staff to effectively manage $240M annual spend for outbound and inbound motor carrier selection based on cost, service, and carrier volume commitments.  Collaborate directly with business unit leadership, customer service groups, sales/marketing personnel, plant purchasing, and plant shipping personnel to ensure service delivery performance standards are balanced with the cost of transportation to ensure all customer issues are handled effectively and in a timely manner to meet or exceed operational requirements of all GPI Business Units.

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

    1. Manage the process of shipment execution via the GPI/LCC TMS and other associated logistics systems, specifically MercuryGate, BreakThrough Fuel, FourKites, and others to meet business needs.
    2. Develop associates to meet the projected work requirements within established operating budgets and staffing plans.  Administer training and cross-training of associates on GPI/LCC processes, policies and procedures.
    3. Manage employee performance and complete semi-annual performance appraisals, including appropriate constructive feedback, incentive and recognition, according to corporate policy.
    4. Ensure all Human Resource policies and guidelines for assigned associates are implemented and followed according to corporate policy.  Promote educational opportunities to associates in support of GPI philosophies and core values to ensure quality to customers and to provide a rewarding and professional working environment for associates.
    5. Plan, organize and execute staff workload in support of daily operational needs.  Structure workstations, job assignments, and technology resources to achieve optimal productivity of associates.
    6. Create and maintain monthly reporting dashboards and scorecards for business units and departmental value creation for tracking job performance of associates against established annual success factors.
    7. Develop and maintain centralized shared file network for departmental policies and standard operating procedures, available to approved customer service, sales/marketing and business unit resources.
    8. Prepare and maintain departmental metrics associated with operational activities and its relation to expense commitments for general operating expenses and human resource purposes.
    9. Act as a liaison between logistics, business unit leadership, customer service and sales groups to promote communications and create process control parameters in line with customer delivery guidelines.
    10. Maintain good and ethical business relationships with motor carriers and association contacts.
    11. Identify any policy, carrier or specific process causing positive or negative metric results and work to attain increased favorable utilization of resources.
    12. Assists in the development of annual business plans and analysis of expenditures.
    13. Assists in the development and implementation of strategic supply chain logistics plans and activities.
    14. Recommends and implements improvements to processes to more efficiently distribute costs of operations.
    15. Provide reporting and project support for Manager, Motor Carrier Compliance, Manager, Strategic Sourcing - Freight and Director Strategic Sourcing & Logistics as required.
    16. Perform other duties and functions as deemed appropriate by department leadership team.

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

    •  5+ years of transportation operations management, or supply chain management experience in a manufacturing organization
    • Supervision of non-exempt associates in a logistics, or supply chain role
    • Transportation Management Systems and ERP systems experience

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    • Strong systems aptitude and must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel.  Proficiency in Microsoft Access is a plus.
    • Transportation Management System background and utilization.
    • Advanced computer skills including a moderate understanding of ERP and TMS application integrations (e.g. SAP, JDE, Panther, MercuryGate, Furnished Tracking, etc.), and hands-on experience with other analytical software tools.
    • Bachelor’s Degree, or demonstrated work experience equivalent.

    • Ability to define problems, to collect data, to establish facts, and develop valid actions/conclusions.
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

    • Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of associates and management.
    • Ability to use technology to solve business problems.

  • Qualifications

    Candidate must be competent in oral and written communications. The candidate must have demonstrated computer skills, including a proficiency in using common word processing software, spreadsheet software, database applications, project and presentation software, email, contact management and scheduling software.

    Candidate should demonstrate a working knowledge of safety rules and regulations at all levels of government, including federal, state and local. The candidate should also show an ability, through demonstrated experience, to accomplish the following: conduct safety audits and field inspections to ensure compliance with occupational and environmental health and safety requirements; develop, implement and maintain employee training programs; establish and maintain complete safety and training records; and develop, update and manage workplace safety programs, procedures and policies.
