    Job Description

    The Quality Manager is responsible for leading the quality department within in two manufacturing facilities. The QA Manager will ensure the timely and effective implementation of all quality activities in the production of our concrete products. Maintains close working relationships with other department managers and the quality technicians in order identify, solve, and prevent problems affecting product quality. They will lead all quality initiatives to reduce waste and efficiently manufacture the highest quality products to exceed all industry standards. The quality manager reports to the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager.

    • Supervise and direct quality technicians who are responsible for enforcing and other quality-related policies in order to meet product quality standards.
    • Review Production Batch Records and other manufacturing-related documents to verify compliance and record keeping for all mandated manufacturing processes, quality checks, testing, & sampling.
    • Manage all material recipes and mix designs for specified production facilities.
    • Communicate all quality standards with raw material vendors and validate inbound materials are within specifications.
    • Work with planning, purchasing and production management teams to ensure the availability and quality of inbound materials meet the needs of the facilities.
    • Lead randomized auditing procedures of finished products to ensure compliance with established specifications.
    • Lead the lab testing procedures, results and documentation of finished products, raw materials, and packaging components.
    • Oversee the management of rejected products by properly identifying the defects, identifying the route cause, quarantine of materials, and release or disposal.
    • Assist in investigating and correcting quality-related issues (including customer complaints) through collaboration with other departments.
    • Make recommendations to offer/present solutions to improve the quality systems and procedures.
    • Assist in the implementation of policies, operating procedures, quality systems and programs which ensure proper testing, evaluation, inspection, and technical support in order to meet product quality standards.
    • Establish training procedures and lead quality training initiative within department and across other departments.
    • Maintain all quality records of raw materials and finished products. Identify testing results and trends to offer solutions for improved quality and efficiency.
    • Ensure good performance by quality assurance technicians by mentoring, training, setting expectations, providing accountability, and performing evaluations.
    • Identify and develop standard operating procedures to improve quality.
    • Staff and train new quality technicians. Hold the quality team accountable for performance expectations
    • Required overnight travel 15-20% (every 6 weeks will drive to our Rock Island, IL facility and stay Mon-Frid)

    Required Skills/Abilities

    • Training and experience in building material testing using ASTM standards strongly preferred.
    • Ability to work under pressure (in an extremely fast paced environment), meet deadlines (overtime work as required) and make effective decisions.
    • Computer knowledge (Microsoft Office applications) and computer-based applications.
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
    • Skilled in organization, prioritization, and strong attention to details.
    • Team player and leader with the ability to work across multiple functions and disciplines.
    • Must be able to effectively communicate ideas (verbally and in writing), be a self-starter and handle difficult reporting situations
    • Must have valid driver’s license

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree of science preferably in material science, engineering or related field
    • 5 years of work experience as quality assurance auditor/technician and one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity.

    The employee must frequently transport and move items up to 80 pounds. Must be able to closely inspect materials and products. Employee must be able to identify color blends, variances, non-conforming color blends with up to three different colors on each product. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to remain stationary or move throughout the workstations; also includes the ability to ascend and descend steps and ladders; and position self in tight spaces. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, talk or hear.
