    Job Description

    The position will be in Technical Service investigating product  issues by preparing, formulating, and evaluating the root cause of the product failure. 

    YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

    The qualified candidate will conduct applied research and product/process development in investigation of existing proprietary products. Working with teams of engineers and scientists, he/she will investigate creative solutions to technical problems and create corrective solutions by design of experiment outputs. Based on Polymer and Materials Science, Adhesives, Coatings and Ink Chemistries, the candidate will investigate root cause analysis of product failure. Candidate will use his/her knowledge of chemistry to evaluate product failures and create corrective action plans. Position requires hands-on lab analysis of coatings, inks, adhesives, and systems, as well as manufacturing pilot and scale up trials in conjunction with multiple operational sites.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Standard coating testing protocols will be used to benchmark product failures. 
    • Using root cause analysis and design failure analysis, the candidate will determine if standard requirements for such products were achieved.
    • Periodically reviews his work with a senior staff member, project leader, and/or the technical manager /director.
    • Assists in the troubleshooting of production or customer problems related to customer product complaints.

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • B.S. in the sciences with 2+ years experience or  MS degree with coating background with specific degrees in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Surface/ Coatings Science, or Materials Science preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of good laboratory practices & relevant research experience required.
    • Position requires excellent problem-solving skills with high levels of motivation, initiative and energy.
    • Must have direct experience in the analysis of coatings, dispersions, inks, toners, and supplies. 
    • Direct experience with analysis of thermoplastic coating chemistry is highly desirable.
    • Working knowledge of current digital printing methods, technology, suppliers, and chemical systems related to such.
    • Must possess knowledge of or be familiar with analytical methodologies and standard analytical techniques.
    • Experience with manufacturing methods used in the dispersion of pigmented systems, mixing, coating, and printing.
    • Experiences in the following areas are also important: polyurethane; epoxy; vinyl and polyester, pigments, dyes, adhesive systems for both solvent and water on plastic, paper and textile substrates.
    • Effective written and oral communications Excellent computer skills. Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word, MS Project, etc. 
    • Thorough working knowledge of statistical Design of Experiments.
    • Good planning skills and working experience with project management techniques. 
    • Able to work independently as well as in a team. Ability to interact effectively with both internal and external customers.
