    Job Description

    Avery Dennison is seeking a Senior Research Associate to join the global Polymers, Adhesives and Coatings Center of Excellence (PACE) in Labels and Graphics Materials (LGM) located in Mill Hall, PA. Part of the larger research and development team, you will support business growth and work to expand Avery Dennison’s competitive advantage through the development of new product technology for pressure-sensitive adhesive labels and graphics materials. Specifically, we work across the global businesses and technical teams and apply material science to identify, develop and deploy novel film chemistries, as well as support cross-functional teams in the commercialization of new product technologies. Excellent problem solving skills, material science and an entrepreneurial demeanor will be key to success in the role.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Develop knowledge of Avery Dennison’s businesses and understand short- and long-term development opportunities
    • Advance our understanding of polymer film development through application of material science and process knowledge
    • Design experiments and run polymer film trials on pilot scale assets, including test protocol design and data analysis
    • Lead generational platform projects and work closely with a team of technology and commercial leaders across the globe
    • Develop and apply various post-processing techniques such as embossing, stretching and annealing as vital to meet application needs
    • Serve as a company subject matter expert in film processing and resultant structure-property relationships
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree with an emphasis in Material Science and Engineering, Polymer Science or Engineering, Polymer Physics, or Chemical Engineering is required. PHD (or equivalent experience) in relevant field is preferred
    • Strong understanding of structure/property relationships in films, film processing/manufacturing and (melt) rheology
    • Demonstrated track record of development of new film products from concept to scale‐up
    • Minimum of 8 years of R&D experience – preferably a strong background in cast, extrusion and/or blown film processes
    • Entrepreneurial demeanor with demonstrated strong skills in problem solving
    • Ability to communicate across functions and geographies
    • Willing to travel up to 30% per year locally and globally
