  • Responsibilities

    A Mechanical Design Engineer in the Packaging Machinery Division leads, manages, and supports the design and development of new packaging machinery systems as well the application engineering of standard & highly customized machines. The position provides engineering support for troubleshooting in-field customer issues, machinery system upgrades & installation, and spare part support for machinery systems worldwide. Collaboration with Carton Design, Sales, Estimating, Assembly and Fabrication are required to ensure our machines and cartons are optimized for best packaging system performance and efficiency.  The Project Engineer is also called on to support or lead Lean/Six Sigma projects to improve the operation of machinery, reduce manufacturing costs, and increase engineering efficiency.  Daily functions require minimal supervision however the Project Engineer is expected to coordinate the activities of technicians & engineers on projects as required ensuring product standardization and proper resource utilization.

     

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Responsible for machine development and project management including skilled machine design creation and oversight, scheduling, planning, estimating and manpower assignment
    • Prepare complex layout and proposals and detail drawings in accordance with Engineering Standards from rough sketches, models or verbal descriptions.
    • Prepare studies, concepts, and proposals for project justification and approval.
    • Manage day to day activities of assigned engineering personnel.
    • Work with Manufacturing, Service & Customers to resolve machine problems.
    • Assist Sales & Marketing on presentation of proposals to customers.
    • Prepare bills of material and cost estimates as required.
    • Maintain drawing and specification files.
    • Review and check work of others for conformance to Engineering Standards, dimensioning and clarity of data.
    • Job function could require domestic and international travel up to 25%.

     

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum 5 years experience in machinery design; to include dynamic mechanical timed mechanisms
    • Minimum 5 years engineering project management
    • Proficient with SolidWorks design software

     

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    B.S. Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
