  • Responsibilities

    This experienced engineering position will provide design expertise for tooling, mechanical components, and custom converting equipment to support manufacturing of paper containers and plastic lids for the Foodservice division.  The role will coordinate procurement of parts from external vendors to meet project deliverables and coordinate assembly of mechanical components and custom converting equipment to support manufacturing in Foodservice converting plants. Additional responsibilities include providing production support of equipment. The position is part of a world class talented engineering & technical team in the Foodservice Engineering & Product Development Center and will report to Manager, Tooling.

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

    • Lead and support development of proprietary tooling to manufacture paper cups, plastic lids
    • Design tooling, parts, assemblies, and custom converting equipment using engineering standards best practices.
    • Lead and support QC of all OEM tooling to meet functionality on GPI’s converting equipment
    • Develop project plans and execute to meet deliverables within budget and schedule
    • Coordinate sourcing, fabrication and assembly of tooling, mechanical parts and converting equipment with internal and external resources to meet project deliverables
    • Develop and support project plans and execute to meet deliverables within budget and schedule
    • Coordinate startup of new tooling/equipment and provide support for ongoing production
    • Facilitate, encourage, promote, and engage in teamwork activities.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering with at least 3 years of design experience
    • Demonstrated experience with design for manufacturability (DFM and design for assembly (DFA)
    • Experience utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) required
    • Experience with CMM and advanced metrology equipment preferred
    • Experience with hands-on assembly and/or manufacturing of mechanical components strong plus
    • Experience with electro-mechanical component integration into machine design is a strong plus.
    • Experience sourcing custom fabricated mechanical components is a plus.
    • Project management experience desirable

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field is required.
    • MS degree preferred

    SKILLS:

    • Must possess strong computer aided design (CAD) skills. Experience with SolidWorks is a strong plus.
    • Experience in Design automation with any 3D modeling software is a strong plus.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering best practices in the design of mechanical components.
    • Project management skills in executing technical projects
    • Ability to work in cross functional teams and to support/direct/coordinate activities of internal and external engineering/drafting resources
    • Deep understanding of electro-mechanical components, including PLC and drive motor controls required.
    • Must have demonstrated oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to drive multiple concurrent assignments to completion.
    • Must have the ability to be self-directed and manage priorities.

    SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

    • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules in special situations which may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.
    • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
    • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
    • Reading computer screens or other electronic devices.
    • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
