Qualifications: Ball Aerospace 2019 Summer Intern Program: The Ball Aerospace Internship Program is a 10-week summer program that provides interns with practical experience working on relevant projects while working with designated mentors; access to state-of-the-art equipment; a competitive wage; relocation reimbursement; in-house training; group activities; possible future employment and the ability to participate in the Ball Aerospace Remote Sensing Team (BIRST) program to build and launch a rocket or high-altitude balloon. At the conclusion of your internship, you will be required to prepare and deliver a formal presentation of your project work to your respective department. Technical Intern Systems Engineer (Command & Data Handling) At Ball Aerospace, Systems Engineers work to ensure the technical success of the entire system verifying not only that the components function on their own, but also when integrated together. Systems engineers are involved in every stage of the product lifecycle, from the conception of tomorrows cutting-edge technologies to proposal writing, detailed design, assembly and test, and finally launch and operations. The Systems Engineering department is looking for college undergraduates and graduate students (who will graduate with their degree in Fall 2019 or Spring 2020) who have the ability to accomplish diverse technical assignments and the communication skills to interact with technical experts, government customers, and other commercial space companies. Our past interns have supported development of advanced star trackers, written NASA proposals for new missions, assessed the health and performance of on-orbit satellites, and helped design next-generation spacecraft and their payloads. What Youll Do * Requirements management with the DOORS software system. * Review test procedures and test data for electronics boxes. * Interface with suppliers. * Integration and test activities at the component, subsystem or system level. * Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule. * Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Unit/Strategic Support Unit and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment. * Perform other duties as necessary. What Youll Need * You must have completed your sophomore or junior year and be enrolled in a degree program for the fall of 2019. We will also accept graduating seniors enrolled in a post graduate program. * Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education. * Pursuing Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related degree field * Digital computing experience or classwork * Experience with designing, integrating, and testing hardware and software * Desire to work at system/subsystem architecture/requirement level * A strong interest in learning * A desire to understand how changes in one area impact everything else on the project Desired Qualifications: * Programming experience * Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work with all engineering disciplines * Any experience working with interfaces between control hardware and sensors/actuators (temperature sensors, heaters, valves, etc.) * Experience working with communication interfaces (MIL-STD-1553, RS-422, SpaceWire, etc.) Working Conditions: * Work is performed in an office, clean room, or production environment. * Travel and local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.
