    . Bayer Crop Science Graduate Scholar (Apprentice Field Scientist) Your tasks and responsibilities The primary responsibilities of this role, Bayer Crop Science Graduate Scholar (Apprentice Field Scientist), are to: Plan, manage and conduct both internal and external research trials to obtain data defining the biological activity of experimental compounds identified as candidates for new product development with some direct supervision from the Regional Manager. All functions are conducted within approved company policies, procedures, and budgets. This position is designed to be a training position where the incumbent will, over a two to three year period, become familiar with Bayer's field research and technical service testing programs and techniques. The incumbent will receive training that will aid in qualifying for Field Development and Technical Service positions that come available; New Product Development: Learn and eventually be responsible for the appropriate design and timely completion of all biological performance studies for compounds in the field development phase of new product discovery and development. Must interpret trial data, report results, and provide recommendations for development of new or existing compounds to the appropriate management; Technology Exchange: Support Technology Station activities by assisting with product evaluation, efficacy and benefit demonstrations. Make presentations within Bayer Crop Science and on occasion to at scientific meetings; Network with peers from Technical Service and Product Development to learn and exchange information on Bayer products and business, and to optimize Bayer Crop Science resources; Safety: Responsible for field safety in handling and storage of pesticides, vehicle, and equipment used to conduct field trials; Team Based Activities: Cooperate with Technology Station personnel, Field Development, Technical Services and Market Support teams to conduct biological trials in crops not readily available at other locations. Provide as needed support to regional field reps to minimize the impact of periodic work overloads; Professional Growth: Maintain an active status in appropriate professional societies and industry groups. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: Required Qualifications: The Graduate Scholar should have a minimum of a research/thesis-based Master of Science degree in a biological or agricultural science with some experience in the design, implementation, and evaluation of field research for pesticide efficacy; Working knowledge in one pest control discipline; Communication and human relations skills are necessary to perform the duties of the position, influence decision makers and project a positive Bayer technical image. Analytical, organizational and planning skills are required to manage the workload according to relative importance to company objectives; Knowledge of the relative importance to Bayer sales efforts of crops in the region is required to facilitate effective priority setting; Advanced interpersonal skills are required for effective interaction with key influencers. Problem solving is both reactive and proactive, and involves collaboration with the Regional Manager, Product Development Managers, Technical Service Representatives, Sales Representatives, Registrations, and external customers; It is desirable that the incumbent be capable of operating experimental and commercial spray equipment and laboratory equipment; He/she must obtain and maintain pesticide applicator certification for the geographic area of responsibility; Candidates and incumbents must be able to conduct research protocols as assigned and have basic skills in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel software; The incumbent must also be willing to learn corporate administrative programs and field trial data management programs for entering and summarizing data.
