    . Purification/Downstream Process Development Summer Intern Your tasks and responsibilities Interns will evaluate chromatographic resins/membranes used to develop manufacturing process of biological therapeutics. They will formulate a hypothesis, design a set of experimental designs, collect materials needed for experiments, execute experiments with lab equipment (e.g. Avant, filters, Tecan) compile data and analyze and discuss experiments with manager . The primary responsibilities of this role, Purification/Downstream Process Development Summer Intern, are to: Intern position will work in our Biologics Development Isolation & Purification department and work as part of a team of scientists and engineers to design and perform experimental studies for process development, and optimization and/or scale-up for new protein therapeutics; Design and perform experiments to develop a scalable purification process; Leverage knowledge of protein chemistry, preparative chromatography and/or membrane separation techniques to develop manufacturing process of biologics; Perform protein purification using AKTA Explorer or Avant, Unicorn and ChemStation programming; Isolate and purify protein using dead-end filtration, chromatography, membrane and/or TFF; Organize, mine and analyze a large pool of development data; Perform statistical analysis of experimental data; Analyze process samples using analytical methods such as ELISA, SDS-PAGE, HPLC, CE; Maintain and stock lab consumables; participate in general lab activities as necessary. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following: Required Qualifications: Currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor undergraduate program or in a 2-year Master's program with a preferred focus in protein chemistry area i.e.-Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biological Sciences or related area; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Ability to deal professionally with internal customers of various organizational levels; Ability to work effectively within a departmental team and with members of the same or higher organizational levels; Good organization, documentation, prioritization and scheduling skills together with an overall desire to learn; Basic problem solving and project management abilities together with a professional image; Ability to work independently in a new field and multi-task; Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office with beginner level proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Demonstrated potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, and collaboration with others and independent thought; Intern may need to prepare a large volume of buffers weighing up to 50 kg.; No special gowning requirement. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge in protein chemistry, preparative chromatography and/or membrane separation techniques Experience in protein purification using KTA Explorer or Avant, Unicorn and Chem Station programming Experience in protein purification using dead-end filtration, chromatography, TFF Candidate with previous research/development experience.
