We have over 65,000 employees and a presence in virtually every country around the world to address some of the most challenging global health issues.Program Objective/ScopeThe summer internship program at BD Corporate Headquarters in Franklin Lakes, NJ, provides students hands-on exposure to BD's product development process for innovation and commercialization. Our unique development process differentiates BD from the competition and is the means by which we meet the needs of a wide range of medical device global markets.As part of a global organization, you may work within cross-functional or interdisciplinary teams while collaborating and supporting multiple internal partners and customers. The internship program will provide endless opportunities to engage with peers, senior personnel, and supervisors who will provide informal mentoring and coaching.Throughout our summer internship, students will build an extensive professional network, learn how to work in an engineering environment, build and hone laboratory skills, and deliver business presentations showcasing their work. BD's summer internship program is a great opportunity to gain exposure to the medical device industry and BD’s culture.We are recruiting for highly driven Mechanical and Biomedical engineering students with a passion for innovation, product development and working in the medical device industry. The candidate is responsible for all housing and transportation costs.Project Areas:Each R&D intern will be assigned an individual project to lead and drive to further develop their technical engineering expertise in the Mechanical and/or Biomedical space. During your summer internship, you will have the opportunity to work in one of the following areas:Design and development product systems, subsystems, and components using design for manufacturing principles as well as geometric dimensioning and tolerancing tools.Identify the best tools and approaches to effectively solve engineering problems to develop, optimize and/or analyze designs by applying the appropriate mix of first principles, analytical, computational, and experimental methods.Ensure the implementation and rigor of product development processes and design control procedures.Support current products in terms of quality, manufacturing, supply continuity, and cost improvement.Support execution of technical and/or cross-functional project work.Required Qualifications:EducationBS and/or MS/PhD student pursuing a degree in Mechanical or Biomedical engineeringA focus in Software as a device development is welcome but not required.ExperienceProficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPointAbility to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10 - 12-week summer internship period.Preferred Qualifications:Prior internship/co-op experienceFor certain roles at BD, employment is contingent upon the Company’s receipt of sufficient proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
