    SUPVR., SHIPPING II

     

    MISSION / SUMMARY:

     

    The Shipping Supervisor II is responsible for providing leadership and supervision of Finishing and Shipping crew operations as needed to cover for crew supervisors on vacation or temporarily assigned to other duties. Crews are typically staffed with approximately 20 employees, consisting of operators and loading personnel. The Shipping Supervisor II is also responsible for assisting the Finishing & Shipping Superintendent in the day-to-day Operations of the Department and the planning and coordination of maintenance and outage activities within the department.

     

    The primary focus of this position is to support the immediate needs of the mill through the supervision of rotating crews in the Finishing and Shipping area, to maintain a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation to achieve maximum quality production at minimum cost.  Areas of responsibility include all roll handling equipment, wrapping and finishing operations, warehousing, inventory management, loading / shipping (rail and truck) and training / certification of Operators.

     

     

     

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

    The Shipping Supervisor II is responsible for the following:

    • Responsible for safe work environment, including conducting safety meetings and training, observations and correcting unsafe behaviors and conditions, and proactively supporting department and facility leadership in the continuous improvement of safety systems.
    • Responsible for the direct supervision of rotating crews (~20 employees), as needed to cover supervisor vacancies, utilizing the competencies of a successful frontline leader (see competencies below)
    • Encourages and motivates crew members to complete on-shift safe behavior observations.
    • Provide documentation/record keeping for training and qualifications.
    • Assigns responsibility for tasks and decisions.
    • Responsible for meeting and exceeding established production and quality goals.
    • Audit work systems to ensure consistent operation (rounds, logs, check sheets, inspection procedures, TCC’s etc.)
    • Increase crew engagement
    • Direct maintenance tasks to be completed on shift.
    • Effective communication and production planning between departments.
    • Annual outage support and routine outage support.
    • Conducting one-to-ones with direct reports.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 5+ yrs. of experience in paper manufacturing, warehouse operations, converting, logistics, or related field. Experience in maintenance and /or converting equipment operation is preferred.
    • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
    • Associates Degree, BA or BS Degree preferred.

     

    SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

    • The position will be assigned as Supervisor for a crew on rotating shifts.  Crew assignments may be changed to meet department needs.  Shift coverage will include day and night shifts as well as holiday and weekend coverage. 
    • This position may be requested to work different schedules to cover department needs.

     

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Sitting or standing for extended periods up to 12-hours.
    • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
    • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
    • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.
    • Ability to physically move about a manufacturing environment including, accessing roll handling equipment, climbing ladders / stairs and entering confined spaces.
