Global Business Services and Business Optimization

The Global Business Services (GBS) and Business Optimization team is a newly formed organization established to transform Biogen’s business processes with a vision of “Lean and Simple” operations to fuel commercial growth and the innovation pipeline.  Further, GBS will provide further value by developing and delivering a suite of business solutions and support services that are valued by internal customers.   GBS will deliver services by leveraging a global delivery model, operational transparency and metrics, leveraging global best practices, and a service-oriented process improvement culture.   All solutions will be supported by strong business cases and ultimately monitored for the effectiveness and efficiency against benchmarks and service level agreements.

THE POSITION

The Global Procurement Sr. Buyer is a core member of the Global Business Services (GBS) organization and has end-to-end responsibilities for direct materials purchasing.  This position will be responsible for the following activities, including, but not limited to:

•    Management of the entire purchase order process including compliance assurance, appropriate documentation, data entry, order creation/submission, communication, expediting, escalations, reconciliation of financial issues, etc. •    Monitoring, tracking, triaging, and prioritizing day-to-day workload •    Maintaining strong relationships and communication links to key internal business partners (e.g. Materials Management, Quality, Materials Sciences, Manufacturing) and other functional groups as required •    Maintaining appropriate relationships with suppliers while monitoring their performance, identifying trends, issues, and corrective actions. Act as the first escalation point of contact for supplier-related performance issues •    Periodic participation in various cross-functional meetings •    Working closely with business stakeholders and suppliers to reconcile purchase orders, pricing, and invoice discrepancies •    Providing Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) support including input on supplier performance for business reviews with select suppliers •    Conducting periodic business reviews with assigned suppliers including price negotiations, cost reductions, annual price collection, and continuous improvement projects •    Understanding of financial impacts as a result of variances, tiered prices, MOQ/EOQ, inventory investments, etc. •    Mitigation of risk exposure to manufacturing production schedules through material lead time management and collaborating with stakeholders to improve supply chain continuity •    Developing and enhancing new/existing relationships with strategic suppliers to include supplier and material selection, supply agreements, issue escalation/resolution, etc. •    Management of assigned raw material categories and sourcing activities related to new materials and change controls  

Qualifications

•    Minimum of 2 years of experience in a cGMP regulated industry •    Working knowledge of cGMP regulations within the pharmaceutical industry •    Experience purchasing within an ERP system such as Oracle or SAP •    Impeccable attention to detail •    Excellent verbal and written communication skills •    Excellent time management with the ability to prioritize competing activities •    Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision •    Solid business acumen and prior work experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, or other regulated industry •    Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

Education:  •    Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related discipline •    Supply Chain certification preferred (e.g. APICS/ISM: CSCP, CPM, CPSM)
