    Job Description

_This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2022. _

The R&D Multiple Sclerosis and Neurorepair Research Unit is dedicated to finding new and effective therapies to slow patient disability in progressive multiple sclerosis, following the Biogen mission to positively impact the lives of patients and address patient need. We are a diverse group of scientists with a wide range of expertise, using state-of-the-art technology to research innovative targets and therapies, including remyelination strategies that target glial cells, oligodendrocytes and neurons.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

We seek a talented Intern to characterize and evaluate a therapeutic target in a mouse model of multiple sclerosis. As an intern, you will:

    • Process post-mortem mouse tissue and perform various histological assays
      • Techniques learned: processing mouse tissue into slices and mounting on slides; perform immunohistochemistry to evaluate neuronal health and other important biomarkers
    • Use confocal microscopy to gather images and analyze the resulting images.
      • Techniques learned: using a confocal microscope to take high-resolution images of assayed tissue; analyzing the resulting microscopy images and data using various analysis software.
    • There is a possibility that the Intern could assist with post-mortem collection of mouse tissue and/or ensuring correct application of the mouse model in vivo.
    • Learn about good practices in the lab, including recording data and entering experiments in the electronic lab notebook.

Results from this project will further inform the utility and efficacy of the target for MS treatment and contribute to moving this target forward in the Biogen drug development pipeline.

You will meet weekly with your mentor to discuss experiments and results. You will also have the opportunity to present your work to the broader team.

Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
