    Job Description

    The co-op will conduct studies to identify potential disease-state biomarkers in the CSF of human ALS patients using MassSpec/TMT. They will also support the fluid biomarker team, attend Biomarker group meetings, and collaborate with internal groups related to ongoing projects.

    The candidate will:

    • Acquire new laboratory skills on MassSpec.
    • Gain an understanding of the biology specific to the project, as well as neurobiology and the development of biomarkers.
    • Work independently by the end of the session.
    • Engage in learning opportunities while obtaining industry experience .
    • Present work at a poster session at the end of the internship."
    • Contribute to the development of novel biomarker assays for neurodegenerative disease programs.

    Qualifications

    To participate in the Biogen Co-op/Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
    • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred
    • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
    • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies by scheduled start date

    EDUCATION

    The ideal candidate would have a Science/Biology background, someone who is still in school would be majoring in a scientific field.  Some laboratory experience would be desired, but not required.  Familiarity with basic computer programs such as Excel and Powerpoint is required.  Most importantly, a strong desire to learn is a must!
