    Job Description

    The focus of this internship will be the development of a synthetic method that is of great significance to the organic chemistry community; the work will be targeted for publication in a peer-reviewed journal. The candidate will be responsible for identifying the optimal conditions for this class of reactions, expanding the substrate scope, and collecting publishable analytical data for the final products. The candidate will be trained and supported by a team of experienced synthetic chemists to maximize the achievement of this learning process and possibly complete the internship with a scientific publication in hand. 

    The candidate is expected to dedicate most of the time in an industrial research lab setting. S/he will be performing various organic reactions under proper guidance and analyzing reaction outcomes with cutting edge lab equipment, such as, NMR, LC-MS, various column chromatography techniques, etc. The candidate will also be responsible for keeping scientific lab records and summarizing results in PowerPoint presentations to the team.  

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    • Capable of performing organic reactions in a safe and responsible manner 
    • Contribute to the development of novel chemical transformations 
    • Collect analytical data rigorously and keep a meticulous lab record 
    • Summarize scientific results using PowerPoint and give clear presentations to supervisor and other team members

    Qualifications

    To participate in the Biogen Intern Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 
    • Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program, returning to the academic program following Biogen Intern assignment 
    • Minimum grade point average of 3.2 (preferred) 
    • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date 
    • Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies

     

    The ideal candidate will have completed 2 semesters of undergraduate organic chemistry and have some experience in working in the laboratory (preferably 1-2 years). 

    Basic computer skills working with productivity software (i.e., Microsoft Office) are required and experience with analytical instruments, such as, NMR, LC-MS and column chromatography is a plus. 

    EDUCATION 

    • Minimal requirement: Undergraduate student completed at least two years of program 
    • Desired majors include: Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical/Medicinal chemistry.

     

    LOCATION  Cambridge, MA
