    Job Description

    The System Engineer will take part in design and implementations of servers and systems of Biogen’s high available (24x7) manufacturing control network infrastructure. The candidate will serve as primary on-site support for Biogen’s manufacturing systems environment. He/she has a strong general understanding of infrastructure technologies and a passion for solving complex problems, providing an excellent end user experience. He/she will participate in a global network and provide insight and input to the general support and development of the server and systems platform.

     

    • Implement the virtual server environment and storage platforms according to best practices and following Biogen established Change Management procedures
    • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of documentation for system installation, configuration and administration.
    • Perform Maintenance on Windows and Linux Servers, and possess a substantial working knowledge of database systems.
    • Responsible for incident resolution and root cause investigation
    • Act as primary point of contact for network related issues, and secondary backup function for systems related issues
    • Monitor performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed; ensure integrity of servers; provide server performance statistics and reports according to customer agreements and SLAs
    • Responsible for the support and operations of the Solothurn IT systems in the Manufacturing Controlled Network
    • Responsible as on-site liaison with the IT Infrastructure and Operations group for the support and operations of the Solothurn corporate IT network infrastructure
    • On-site support for the systems and applications operations support engineer function
    • Trouble-shooting the systems that do not function as required – including cross functional coordination
    • Implementing required changes within the allocated time frame and according to procedure
    • Interacts with equivalent level Systems Engineers / IT Architects concerning system and server design issues and future operations
    • Participate in technical and group meetings with customers and key internal representatives Collaborate cross site to leverage the best practices for the other sites

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS in computer science, engineering or related technical disciplines/work experience.
    • A minimum of 5 years experience working in a heterogenous server environment
    • Past experience in collaborating across technology silos such as Servers, storage, backup, networking, active directory, and security.
    • Past experience with pharmaceutical production networks.
    • He/she must have demonstrated hands on experience with troubleshooting Windows and Linux server platforms and have an understanding of
    • Oracle and SQL database functionality/connectivity, layer 2 and 3 technologies and do simple troubleshooting techniques
    • DNS, DHCP, CIFS/NFS, SAN/NAS, DBMS, VLANs, and server side configurations
    • Experience with some of the following: Cisco routing and switching, Load Balancers, TACACS+/Radius, Nexus, Checkpoint firewall.
    • Experience working in a GxP environment
    • Knowledge about scripts, and or services for the platform environment, such as PowerShell Perl or similar
    • Basic understanding of backup solutions such as Netbackup, Rubrik, Networker, BackupExec
    • Self-Starter, eager to learn new technologies in a fastpace environment and work in multiple networking technology domains
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Good communicator who effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve issues
    • Strong written and verbal English communication skill
    • This position may need to travel up to 20% and may require working various shift models to ensure deadlines are met.
