    Job Description

    SUMMARY

    Global Engineering Technical Services (part of Global Engineering) oversees the business systems for Global Engineering’s knowledge management, good engineering practices and electronic systems containing all engineering drawings and manuals.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    Global Engineering’s primary duties are 1) deliver capital projects (design, procurement, construction, testing, handover) and 2) support production of medicines within our US and Switzerland facilities. To perform these duties efficiently we require our engineering knowledge to “flow” and for this we need easily accessible, reusable data/information/knowledge which requires proper creation, identification, collection, review and sharing.

    The intern position will work to identify and improve areas where we have breakdowns in the flow of knowledge which can be anywhere from creation to the ease of reuse. Sometimes this may require creating a new method for collecting data, or normalizing data, or migrating existing data to a new repository to improve accessibility, or developing a Microsoft Power BI report to transform the data and visualize in a manner that makes the information usable.

    The primary outcomes of improving our flow of knowledge are better communication, collaboration, and re-use of information. Benefits will include:

    The intern will have the opportunity to:

    • Use office productivity and analysis tools (Power BI, Tableau, Power Automate, SharePoint Online and Excel)
    • Work with relational databases (SQL, Oracle, Access, SharePoint Lists, etc.)
    • Learn about engineering within major biopharmaceutical company
    • Learn about knowledge management

    Qualifications

    To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
    • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred
    • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
    • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

    EDUCATION Bachelor’s in computer science or IT, data science

    LOCATION Research Triangle Park, NC
