ABOUT THIS ROLE The Senior Category Manager for Direct Materials is a global strategic role and will have the opportunity to transform, improve and innovate key sub-categories impacting the operational footprint of Biogen. This leader will ensure the business needs are met by developing and executing sourcing strategies that deliver high value in the short term and long term by mitigating risk, improving quality, and reducing cost, implementing dual sourcing strategies and in-depth risk management.  This procurement team supports multiple modalities within pharmaceutical manufacturing including biologics, oral solid dosage, gene therapy, parenteral fill, and antisense oligonucleotides.  The successful candidate must be able to drive significant value to the business. The candidate must have executive presence and the ability to present and interact with internal senior levels internally and suppliers. This role reports into the Associate Director, Direct Materials Global Sourcing and RTP Procurement.   WHAT YOU'LL DO •    Leading team in developing and executing of sourcing strategies for the direct material category.  This includes analyzing category spend to understand current state, obtaining business requirements from key internal clients, identifying and leading cross-functional teams, conducting market research and creating a sourcing strategy.   •    Performing business-related steps of sourcing initiatives, negotiating contracts, and transitioning outcomes to the business units for operational implementation.  •    Collaborating with supplier relationship management leads. This includes driving adherence to contractual agreements, continuous improvement and innovation. •    Leading client engagement efforts at the site operations management level to ensure Sourcing is aligned with their objectives, while securing their sponsorship to meet corporate imperatives (e.g., social responsibility, diversity, compliance, savings, etc.) and to assign subject-matter experts to participate in sourcing projects.  Regularly solicit feedback from project-level stakeholders to ensure Sourcing is performing well and continuously improving. •    Category maintenance.  This includes contract life-cycle management (e.g., renewing expiring contracts, updating pricing annually, etc.), category databases (e.g., refreshing internal business requirement/impact metrics, supplier capabilities database, etc.), scanning the marketplace for changes and managing any known or potential business impact and developing risk mitigation plans. •    Continuous Improvement.  This includes both department/category business process improvements (e.g., enhancements to the sourcing process, development or revision of key sourcing procedures, documenting processes, etc.) and personal development.  

Qualifications

WHO YOU ARE You are an experienced procurement leader with expertise in GMP materials sourcing, contracts and negotiations.   You enjoy collaborating with diverse subject-matter experts to develop process improvements and create category strategies.

•    Minimum of 7 years of experience in the following topics. o    Sourcing and negotiating a variety contracts o    Strong experience in Direct Materials category preferred o    Project management experience o    Working in a client-facing or customer service role (e.g., consulting, supply chain, etc.) •    Experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry and knowledge of technical business functions and GxPs is preferred.   •    Experience working in a matrix environment with direct reporting structures. •    Ability to communicate effectively with senior business unit leaders •    Excellent presentation skills •    Ability to develop, enhance and execute on processes and procedures

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in a Life Sciences or a related field.  MBA preferred.
