    About This Role

    The Manufacturing Control Network (MCN) Device Engineer will take part in design and implementation of servers and systems of Biogen’s (24x7) manufacturing control network infrastructure for our RTP location. The candidate will serve as primary on-site support and subject matter expert for client devices residing in Biogen’s manufacturing systems environment. Applicants shall have a strong general understanding of infrastructure technologies and a passion for solving complex problems and providing an excellent end-user experience.

    What You’ll Do

    The MCN Device Engineer will support the client-side systems used in labs, warehouse and production areas in Biogen’s manufacturing operation and will be the primary responsible for:

    • Day to day support of thin clients, handheld scanners, scales, and other peripheral devices.
    • Deployment and configuration of thin clients, handheld scanners, scales, and other peripheral devices.
    • Provide front-line support for manufacturing operations regarding connectivity and performance of network connected manufacturing and lab devices
    • Provide support to the systems and network engineering teams and the Lab support teams as required.
    • Develop and implement user interfaces that support Shop Floor activities.

    As the RTP site is a 24x7 operation it may be required to provide on-site support outside normal working hours or be on-call.

    You are a self-starter, eager to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment and are comfortable working in multiple networking technology domains. You have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a strong communicator who effectively evaluates information/data to make decisions; anticipates obstacles and develops plans to resolve issues.

    Required Skills

    • BA/BS in computer science, engineering, or related technical disciplines/work experience.
    • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in a heterogenous server environment.
    • Experience in collaborating across technology silos such as servers, storage, backup, networking, active directory, and security.
    • Experience with pharmaceutical production networks.
    • The MCN Device Engineer must possess experience/have knowledge about some of the following:
      • Microsoft Windows server, VMware, AD, Linux, Citrix, ThinManager, mobile devices like barcode scanners, tablets, laptops, HMI, smartphones.
    • Demonstrated hands on experience with troubleshooting Windows and Linux server platforms and understand Client-side Security Technologies such as Antivirus, VPN and Firewall.
    • DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Wireless.
    • Knowledge about scripts, and or services for the platform environment, such as PowerShell Perl or similar Basic understanding of backup solutions such as NetBackup, Veritas, Networker, BackupExec.
