Sulfurization is a critical step in antisense oligonucleotides synthesis; however, the mechanism is poorly understood. We are now investigating alternative sulfurization reagent/system to minimize impurity formation and to increase the purity of drug substance. The goal of this project is to investigate the efficiency of different sulfurization reagent, design solid and solution phase experiment, verify the critical results, conduct intermediates characterizations, and mechanistic study to improve the current sulfurization process and/or design better sulfurization agents based on the knowledge gained.

    • Execute, document, and communicate results from sulfurization experiments
    • Actively interacts with group scientists to gain understanding of principles, experimental designs, and data interpretation.
    • Complete a research report before the completion of the Co-op term.
