    Job Description

    This is for a 12-week internship position from June – August 2020 located in Research Triangle Park, NC

    Global Engineering Technical Services (part of Global Engineering) oversees the business systems for Global Engineering’s knowledge management, good engineering practices and electronic systems containing all engineering drawings and manuals.  Global Engineering’s primary objectives are to deliver capital projects (design, procurement, construction, testing, handover) and support Manufacturing during production of biologics in the US and Switzerland. Certain data, information and knowledge created by and controlled within Global Engineering has become isolated and obscure. The Global Engineering department are undertaking an effort to improve knowledge management within the department.   The intern position will work in the middle stages of an initiative to make Global Engineering’s inhouse knowledge discoverable, accessible for everyone’s use, and develop better knowledge management spaces for the functions within Global Engineering. The result is a network of SharePoint Online sites that act as an information highway for Global Engineering with direct storage or directions to information held elsewhere, and data pathways for information and analysis to flow out to other groups via Microsoft Power BI Reports.  The drivers for improving Global Engineering knowledge management are improving communication, collaboration and re-use of information. Benefits will include:

    The intern will have the opportunity to: 

    • Learn about engineering within major biopharmaceutical company 
    • Learn about knowledge management 
    • Learn about office productivity and analysis tools (Office 365 suite including Power BI, Power Automate and SharePoint Online) 
    • Work with relational databases

     

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 
    • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred 
    • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date 
    • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

     

    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS Skills: data sciences and technology, solution architecture, systems engineering, network architecture, data analytics  

    Attributes: motivated, logical, resourceful, reliable, persuasive and practical 

    EDUCATION Bachelor’s in data sciences, IT or engineering (any degree aimed at solving complex problems, and comfortable with computers)
