Job Description The RNA Biology and Functional Genomics group, within Translational Genome Sciences, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated scientist to join a dynamic team dedicated to understanding the molecular basis of and developing novel therapeutics for neurological disorders. The candidate will work independently and with other experimentalists, computational biologists, and statistical geneticists to further our understanding of how genetic variation and RNA metabolism impact disease and to define novel therapeutic hypotheses. This is primarily a laboratory based position for a scientist with strong molecular and cellular biology skills and deep understanding of RNA biology to study the effects of genetic variants on the transcriptome and proteome. The key elements for success are deep technical expertise, a passion for doing science, and ability to communicate effectively with molecular and computational scientists. Responsibilities • Partner with leaders in Translational Biology, Disease-Area Research, Biomarkers, and Clinical Development to identify key questions and priorities that functional genomics experiments can impact • Design and execute functional genomics experiments to support Biogen’s drug discovery efforts in neurology and rare genetic disease. • Deliver experimental results to project teams that help define therapeutic hypothesis and/or targeting strategy • Identify opportunities for external collaborations that supplement internal resources and ensure RNA biology and functional genomics research is at the cutting edge Effective use of disruptive technologies is at the heart of Biogen’s strategy to discover and develop highly differentiated medicines. We are investing in translational biology, human genomics, digital technologies and advanced analytics to address scientific questions to support the discovery and development of the next generation of therapeutics. Biogen has a focus on Neuroscience and is developing medicines for neurodegenerative disorders with significant unmet medical need. The Translational Genome Sciences department, within the Translational Biology organization, is responsible for providing genetic and genomic expertise to the R and D organization and specifically, applies human genetic and genomic discoveries to support Biogen’s drug discovery research teams and clinical development programs. #LI-SK1
