    Job Description

    The Senior Manager, Accounting and Business Planning will be responsible for all aspects of Accounting and FP&A supporting IT and other corporate functions. The candidate would be viewed as a trusted business partner, providing decision support by challenging and enlightening the business as to financial impacts of their decisions.

    The Senior Manager is expected to drive financial discipline in the organization and should deliver flawless and timely execution of all accounting close and control processes, with commitment to the highest standards of integrity and accuracy. Oversee and assist in all aspects of accounting and planning, including:

    • Management reporting of monthly and quarterly results
    • Lead budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning for respective functions
    • Present results and highlight risks and opportunities to functional business partners to ensure informed decisions can be made about activities throughout the year.

    Strategic finance decision support for business functions, including business case review, vendor contract review, developing governance and new processes.

    • Analyze potential business decisions for optimal financial return
    • Provide finance insights to make best decisions for organization and for Biogen
    • Drive efficiencies in processes and resource allocation across functions
    • Partner with business stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the business cases and financial records. Ensure any relevant business case issues are identified, discussed, resolved, and documented appropriately
    • Drive continuous process improvement to strive for automation and improved accuracy wherever possible

    Oversee and develop direct reports to ensure high performance, accountability & delivery of results and to create meaningful development opportunities across planning and accounting. Oversee and assist in all aspects of accounting, including:

    • Monthly, quarterly and annual close processes
    • Establish appropriate accounting methodology for new contracts

    Adhoc projects within Finance Organization, including but not limited to audit remediation, training, tracking and process improvement

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Minimum 7 years relevant experience in Finance, accounting or audit.
    • Distinctive quantitative, critical thinking and modeling skills
    • Advanced experience with Excel and PowerPoint. Ideally, systems experience with ERP (e.g. Oracle, etc.) plus Business Intelligence tools such as Qlik, Tableau, etc.
    • Strong combination of financial, analytical and strategic skills
    • Strong oral, presentation and written communications and the ability to build productive working relationships with various levels, functions and teams
    • Attention to detail, yet proven ability to maintain an “80/20” mindset
    • High sense of urgency with the ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
    • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills – the ability to collaborate well with others and work cross-functionally across the organization.
    • Ability to work well in teams and to build organizational relationships across all levels of the organization.
    • Strong analytic abilities and business acumen, including ability to tell an impactful story leveraging data, metrics, and visualization to establish recommendations and convey conclusions
    • Decisive and accountable
    • Comfort dealing with ambiguity and a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment
    • BS/BA or University degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business, or other relevant background.
    • Advance degree or qualification preferred (CPA, MBA, or MS degree)
