    SCIENTIST I, MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY, CAMBRIDGE MA 

    ABOUT THIS ROLE

    New drugs are discovered through creative design and pioneering synthetic chemistry. In this role, you will leverage your synthetic skills and knowledge of chemistry to design and synthesize new small molecules aimed to treat neurological and rare diseases. You will be expected to work in a team environment and to effectively communicate with co-workers from a variety of disciplines and scientific backgrounds. 

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    • Drive programs with your laboratory contributions, DESIGNING and SYNTHESIZING new analogs for small molecule drug discovery projects
    • Learn and apply the concepts of property-based drug design as applied to neuroscience small molecule drug discovery
    •  Integrate data into iterative multivariate compound optimization
    • Collaborate across functions in program teams
    • Utilize structure and ligand-based drug design with cutting edge software

    The successful candidate will be a creative and highly motivated experimentalist with strong synthetic organic chemistry skills. You will be expected to stay current with the chemical literature and apply the latest advances in synthetic methodology to address drug discovery project challenges. As a key contributor to small molecule discovery projects, thinking independently to solve complex problems is an important aspect of this position.

     REQUIRED SKILLS  

    •  Well versed in modern synthetic methodologies and capable of tackling difficult synthetic problems independently in an expedient fashion
    • Skilled in the area of multi-step synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic compounds, and with a strong commitment to experimental work
    • A team player who works effectively within a multidisciplinary organization
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry is Required

    PREFERRED SKILLS 

    •  Familiarity with relevant biological disciplines (e.g. biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology) is a plus
