    Job Description

    ABOUT THIS ROLE

    This unique role within Manufacturing Sciences / Process Sciences at Biogen seeks an individual with deep expertise in analytical sciences. This role complements our Analytical Development team within the Technical Development organization. Success in this role is evidenced through the realization of greater flexibility and speed in Process Sciences using a focused team that applies creative analytical technologies.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    • Provide technical expertise on assessing and controlling post-translational modifications of protein therapeutics
    • Contribute chemical knowledge for other modalities manufactured at the RTP site, especially antisense oligonucleotides
    • Lead technical process investigations and demonstrate capability for leading tech transfer of downstream protein processes
    • Develop laboratory models and perform laboratory experiments towards process optimization or robustness
    • Improve laboratory utilization and methods and Process Sciences protocols/systems
    • Lead technical investigations towards process impact assessments
    • Lead and support technology transfers by conducting/coordinating laboratory experiments and providing process parameters for implementation
    • Communicate study results and decisions to the technology transfer team, site management
    • Manage lab activities and mentor junior staff in lab work
    • Support of one commercial product may be included in individual process ownership including interaction with CMC team
    • Lead strategic initiatives for the Manufacturing Sciences organization

    WHO YOU ARE

    You are well-verse in analytical technologies, specialized in protein modifications and ASO chemistry. You also have a passion for integrating with downstream functions of Process Sciences, allowing for significant crossover into purification activities.

    REQUIRED SKILLS

    • Education: Chemical Engineering degree or other related discipline + industry experience as outline below:
      • PhD + 2-5 years’ related industry experience
      • Masters + 6-8 years’ related industry experience
      • Bachelor’s + 8-10 years’ related industry experience
    • Skills:
      • Technical expertise in biopharmaceutical manufacturing and/or process development
      • Experience with a variety of ANALYTICAL METHODS (mass spec preferred) and automated liquid handling
      • Engaged with regulatory and quality approaches for manufacturing
